Speaker advice

In upgrading my home theater. Currently I have a energy take 5.1 paired with a Yamaha 375 amp. I recently started the upgrade by replacing the center channel with an energy lcr. I'd now like to replace front left and right.
I'd love to get the energy rc-10 but they are discontinued and I don't trust getting them used.
I'm looking at the klipsch r-15m or rb-61 but know very little about audio so would appreciate the help. My theater room is in a basement and is about 20ft by 15ft.

If you can't find the RC-10 or any other RCs (RC-70 or RC-50), then I'd recommended trying to find two more RC-LCR speakers.
I wouldn't pair the LCR with Klipsch speakers. Different timbre, way different sensitivity.
Maybe try to find some different Energy speakers (CF/ CB/ Veritas?) all will be better than Klipsch for matching an RC-LCR.

I saw those on eBay. Seems pretty steep for speakers that sold for $220 when they were in stock.
I need the speakers to be bookshelf so the other energy speakers won't work.
Also I was lucky to pick up the lcr speaker in an odd batch that frys had. Also they are a bit big for my setup to use as left and right.
Basically what I'm seeing is that I should try and get rc-10 or nothing.

Do not mix and match speaker brands across the front sound field. Terrible idea. It's bad enough if you step out of the matching speakers inside the brand.

Unfortunately, that's the risk you took when investing in a discontinued set of speakers when you bought the LCR.
Other option is sell the RC-LCR and start over with a new speaker line.

I'm still a bit unsure as to why it's a bad idea to mix brands. Can anyone explain it in a simple way?
I tried to read various reviews and they lose me very quickly.

In home theater settings, your left-center-right speakers act as your front stage. You want these speakers to all be similarly voiced. So you're not just trying to go with different brand (yes, I know Energy is part of Klipsch group now), but a completely different set of materials, from aluminum tweeter to horn loaded compression driver.

Optimally you want to match the exact drivers and enclosure across the front sound stage. This is impossible to do unless you purchase matched LCR speakers.

So I'm striking out on getting some rc-10s for a reasonable price. I'm seeing some klipsch b-20s for sale (130) and am tempted. How big would the difference be in pairing these with the lcr? Is the difference worth $200?

If you've read any of the replies above, a huge difference. Buy rc10s for the front and the klipsch for the rear, or sell the lcr and pick up 5 of the klipsch b-20s

Understood. There are a few people selling the rc-10 used but in wary of buying them used when someone might have trashed them and I wouldn't be able to tell until it was too late.

Not sure what you mean by this. The only way to "trassh them" is to under power or over power them dramatically and crank them to 11.

I'll avoid buying them from spinal tap. But I've read online that used speakers can be problematic unless you get to hear them. I'm not experienced enough to tell if a speaker is in great condition just by looking at it.

Just wanted to say thank you to those that helped me in this thread. It pushed me to try harder to find the rc-10s. I was insanely lucky and found a Fry's that had one new in stock for a clearance price. Although it was on the other side of the states, a good buddy of mine picked it up for me and is shipping it.
Hope that the sound is worth the effort.

That's awesome. Well done. You got a sub to pair with those yet? Gonna need more than the sub that came with the Take 5.1 system.
I thought long and hard about buying a pair of Energy RC-70s and an LCR a couple years ago. Also debated going with a Mirage OMD setup. Went with the Chase Home Theater SHO-10/PRO-10 setup, though have Mirage OMD-5s in the rear.

The plan is to see what sub i can't get during Black Friday. The take sub is good but not beefy enough for the rc speakers. I will keep the rear speakers from the take 5.1 as surrounds.
Any suggestions for a good sub for this system?
