King Henry can cover up a lot of flaws.
Actually, statistically, the Rangers look a lot like the Jackets of last year (which makes sense when you stop to think about it, they are both built around stellar goalies). Not only are they middle of the pack in Corsi and Fenwick, it's HOW they are middle of the pack. The Jackets' problem this year is they aren't suppressing shots like they were, which has a lot to do with the injuries.
The Rangers rank near the bottom of the league in shots attempted but near the leaders in shots allowed. This means they are playing a game designed to reduce "Corsi events". They want a game with as few chances as possible, figuring their goalie will not make a mistake and yours will.
For years, the Caps were among the leaders in Corsi events, playing firewagon hockey. Which, by the way, is fun as hell. But this year, the Caps are there with the Rags in fewest Corsi events. They are playing Trotz hockey and not playing that end to end style we've seen in DC the past decade. (The Lightning, Isles, Hawks, and Sharks are still upholding the honor of high event hockey, to varying degrees of success).
Seeing the Caps among the leaders in fewest shots allowed is just weird.

Am I reading this right the Habs are 7 in Corsi and +20 on goals?

Actually they look like the Jackets prior to the Nash trade, with Marty St. Louis, Hagelin, Kreider, and Zuke as additions :rimshot:

That's the only way for them to win though
I love them but it's going to take an incredibly hot Hank and some good goal scoring to advance this team.
Losing Stralman was a huge deal.

At least Holtby should be happy.

What do Blues do when Elliot comes back??
Do you move Allen/Jaskin/? to Edmonton in blockbuster and go with Elliot/Broduer?

I don't think you move goalies. Need to develop your younger guys - Brodeur has no long term value to the org.....

Pens Lightning in a massive showdown tonight, except half the Pens lineup is out again and it's a meh game instead. Oh wells.

I can't wait till the Pens crash and burn again.

How is 26th place?
Blue Jackets have a 1.9% chance of making the playoffs right now, shouldn't be talking shite to anyone, much less the #1 team in the conference.
Beau Bennett showing symptoms of the mumps, being tested. Exactly what they didn't want to happen, it spread to at least 1 other player.

Nyquist scores the exact same goal as Datsyuk... 11 years later and against the same goalie, Luongo:

Been seeing a lot of NHL guys on twitter saying the league is heavily considering finally increasing the size of the goals this offseason.
If true, not sure how I feel about it. Every game is going to be 4+ goals a side.
Is scoring down this year or something?

Scoring has been down for almost a decade. The big thing is that leaguewide save percentage was .873 in 1984. It cleared 90% for the first time in 1994-95. It climbed to .911 in 2003-04, but the year after the lockout, pro-offense rules dropped it back to .901 in 2005-06 (and above 3.0 G/gm for the first time since 1995-96.
Since then, teams have never averaged over 3 goals/game again. This season, we're at 2.74 G/gm and a .914 Sv %, equal to last year's numbers.

Baloo I think the NHL should go to international size rinks to increase scoring.

I would think that would be a logistical issue. I'm just guessing though.
Especially at a place like Barclays Center. I can't even imagine

They will never tear out those seats. I like the bigger ice as well, but it would require every arena to give up its highest dollar seats to make it it fit. Not gonna happen.
I would like to see them actually call obstruction, but that's just a pipe dream.

They're doing it to make Toronto more competitive.

One of my favorite things about the Olympics is the bigger rinks, I'd be all for that but not plausible.
Increasing the size of the goals makes the most sense and biggest change possible.

Obstruction and holding are the calls they need to make. They even need to call obstruction on the offense.
They also need to check sticks.

Brandon Sutter is so good.
Pens took Carolina out back in the Staal trade.

I love the depth of this team and from the minors.
Bryan Rust and Brian Dumoulin net their first career NHL goals, Pens burying the Lightning 4-1.
Pens are now 10-2-2 against playoff teams, and despite all the injuries 5-1-2 points in 7 of their last 8 games.
Have beaten TBL 10 straight times now, talk about owning a team. Haven't beaten the Pens since Nov 11th 2011.
