Planning a trip to Vegas for March from New Orleans.

Never been.

Currently the flights I am seeing are around $1200 round trip for 2 people and the options suck.

Anyone that has done Vegas, Is this what I should expect to pay and will more open up and prices go down as it gets closer?

Well where you are flying from would probably help.

Your home airport would be nice.

Nonstop on Southwest from MSY to LAS is at $400 I believe for mid March.

I booked using points though

FYI, I usually get a direct flight from New Orleans on Southwest for like 300-350.

When flying to Vegas it is much cheaper if you go there early in the week and return home on the weekend.

From New Orleans? That's insane. I've never, ever paid that much for the Southwest direct flight.

Like I said 300-400 MAX.

If you don't already have the chase southwest credit card sign up for one. Spend $2000 in the first 3 months and get 50k points which is normally good for 2 round trip tickets. I did this not too long ago and booked a flight from New Orleans to Vegas for this December. I think it cost me 22k in points.

I flew to Vegas from NOLA last April and paid only $240 on Delta. You may want to wait a few months before booking. Typically the best deals are found 2 months before the flight. I know you are excited about the trip, but you should definitely cool down and wait for a better deal.

Remember also that southwest doesn't charge for luggage. That's a savings while comparing to other airlines.
