If Miles were to leave I think there is some concern that LSU would suffer a few down years whether it be because we hired a young coach who has never been a head coach (Smart), or a guy that will need some time to get his type of players to run his system. In all honesty, a few down years could do the program some good. LSU could stand to lose a few sidewalk fans that come out and tailgate and go to the games just to say that they did. If this year ends up as many expect it to, it will be a very telling season as far as the fans are concerned. I wouldn't mind losing a few.

First, Miles isn't going anywhere.

Second, based on Allevas track record, I would be terrified if he was still AD when it came time to find a new coach. TERRIFIED.

Don't they hire firms to help with the search? Alleva is not stupid. He knows what's at stake with this hire.

I'm not saying that I trust Alleva to make the right decision. I guess the point I was trying to get across is that a few down years may not be all that bad. I think our fans have gotten extremely spoiled and disconnected from LSU. If things aren't going they way they think things should go they are all too quick to give up. Most of these fans likely couldn't name 5 starters before 2003.

Guys good Lord, their is no hire, unless Les walks away. Plain and simple, he is the LSU coach, agree or disagree, but your opinion doesn't matter. If LSU goes 0-8 and or 1-7 in the SEC this and next year then maybe. I know my opinion doesn't matter either, but he is not on the hot seat.

you are saying a lot here. 3 different messages and I agree with all 4. part of it is due to the age of these fans and a lot of what we get about them is on message boards. hell, a lot of these fans probably don't even go to the games, surely not buying tickets.

they sure are spoiled, demanding and loud; very loud.

Yes, we have spoiled fans. But y'all are bordering on hoping that we perform badly to shed the fair-weather fans. Having fewer fans is never a good thing. I welcome all bandwagon fans. I NEVER want our team to lose fans that I don't like. I NEVER want us to lose...even in a rebuilding year...even if I don't like our coaches (which I don't). A culture of winning brings the best recruits, the most TV air time and ultimately money into the university.

Most of us "fans" want a coach and a team that know how to coach and football...respectively. We are not being unreasonable.

If we keep getting blown out, you'll get your wish. Congrats. We will lose your fans who don't meet your criteria...and we will likely lose recruits as well.

Not really. Texas did this. They didn't need a firm to hire strong
What a complete waste of money.

Here's my problem. We just had one of Miles best classes on paper. New coach, players transfer, maybe don't buy in to new guys system. Guess it also depends who on staff stays, like jumbo did, but id say none of them. then this Yeats class could take a hit and now you've basically wasted our best class on paper since 2001. Not building the depth required to compete because instead of recruiting we are coach searching. This spells disaster.

Then there is Wilson. He's at lSU because of Les. If he's not offered the Oct job he gone. Then you better pray the new guy brings in a Nola guy or you can kiss the most talent rich part of the state good bye. Are you guys ready for this? To blow the whole thing up and hope the new guy comes good 3-4 years down the road? What if he doesn't, back to square one again. Yes I am very frightened. Lighting striking 3 times in a row? Not a chance.

We don't need a firm. According to the mouth breathers on this board, lsu will have every coach in the country lining up on Nicholson to coach lsu.

first of all, I never said anything like this. you are putting words in my mouth. there's no way I want LSU to perform badly for any reason.

I don't give a shite about the number of fans LSU has. and secondly, you act like we are some sort of organized group. I don't even know who "we" are. I know no one on this site. I act alone. I am smart enough to opine w/o soliciting support from unknown persons.

A few down years would be a terrible waste of an awesome 2014 recruiting class

I really don't understand the concept of wanting to get rid of "sidewalk fans." I think you're desperately trying to look for a silver lining here.

The last time they did this, a promise was made to have a national search for the next head of the men's basketball program. That lead to a former player/coach here that all the other former players wanted hired.

Alleva allowed Miles and his agent to leverage a job opening at Arkansas for a raise and extension following a disappointing season. Les miles basically has a 100% guaranteed contract if he is fired without cause. Yes, Alleva is stupid.

Didn't say he would come. "search firm" name. I wouldn't if I was him. He makes about the same salary as Miles but with Baylor expectations.
I would imagine Gary Patterson's name would be back on the upswing now as well.
