Had a rough night, tired, wanted a quick gumbo so:

Savoie's jarred roux, guidry's fresh cuts veggies, Richard' sausage, bucket of fried chicken..... Not as good as the real deal, but pretty damned good for the limited effort.

Never used fried chicken before reading about it here, would do again.

Everyone's got the same idea! Colder weather = GUMBO! I might put one together later tonight for tomorrow night's dinner.

Did you cook the skin in the gumbo or use skinless fried?

I used skin on chicken, but I did skim it after the pic and it was much better than expected.

Oh and MNCscripper, GFY

Looks like something Popeyes would serve if they attempted gumbo

My wife cooks a Popeyes Spicy fried chicken gumbo.
We pick the chicken from the bone. Everything else is from scratch.

Do you take the skin off the Popeye's chicken or just dump it in breading and all?

About half of the skin goes in. Thickens it up.

Yum. I've been craving gumbo all day. Will have to make some this week. It's hard to find good, spicy sausage in Dallas.

Cad, buy your own damn chicken, skin it, fry it, and use the spent oil for the roux.

I have been doing this for 20 years. Great gumbo.
