Makes you wonder how many other infected people will travel infected for the same reasons he did. Especially if he happens to survive.

It has now been established by authorities of the Liberian Government that Mr. Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who became the “first ever” Ebola case diagnosed in the US, will be prosecuted if and when he gets back to Liberia.
The Associated Press (AP) quoted Mr. Binyah Kesselly as saying that Mr. Duncan would be prosecuted because he had lied on his airport health questionnaire when he filled it at the Roberts International Airport (RIA), minutes before he flew out of Liberia on September 19.
As one of several measures put into place at the airport because of the deadly Ebola virus disease, passengers flying out of Liberia are being screened and body temperature recorded. They are also asked if they had come into contact with any Ebola patients in the last 21 days.

About Duncan being aware of his medical condition before he left Liberia, his former boss, Mr. Henry Brunson, 60, manager of SafeWay Cargo, a licensed agent of FedEx, agreed that Duncan knew that he was infected with the virus, having directly participated in efforts to help save the life of his landlord’s daughter, who was pregnant. Mr. Brunson said Duncan was his “personal chauffeur” before he (Duncan) just “walked out” on September 4, and never saw nor heard from him again until it was reported that he had been diagnosed with the Ebola virus in the US. He stated that while he is sorry that Duncan might have passed the virus to others over the last few days, he, however, said he is glad that Duncan is in the US where he would get the best treatment to survive. “If he were in Liberia, he was going to surely die,” Mr. Brunson added sadly.
Duncan’s landlord’s daughter, Ms. Nathaline (earlier reported as Marthaline) Williams, 19, was seven months pregnant when she died of Ebola on September 16, having been rejected at three major hospitals in and around Monrovia, including JFK Memorial Hospital, ELWA Hospital and Benson Hospital. She was also rejected at Fredai Clinic at Police Academy Junction.

I probably would have done the same thing. Live in a place where you know you're going to die... or travel to a place that you know will treat you?
They're going to keep coming unless we put measures in place to keep them out.

Anyone who can afford a ticket that has been exposed will try now. You can be treated in a slum with no medication or a great hospital in the U.S. with great care.

I surmised this was the case. He lied at the airport screening leaving the country. He knew exactly what he was doing.

You continue to try to find a lower perspective from which to post. Keep digging.

You aren't very bright if you think it takes a doctorate for an African to realize he's been exposed to a deadly virus. Either that or you're incredibly racist.

My guess is anyone with the means to leave for the U.S. or Europe has or will continue to try to get here. They know we have the ability to possibly save them

quote:I know everyone wants to crucify this guy, but if he thought he had Ebola wouldn't he have passed that on to doctors here when he was trying to get treatment? As questionable as it appears in hindsight, there is no definitive evidence any of those involved realized the 19y/o pregnant girl had Ebola.
Meanwhile, Grugbaye, the taxi driver, who looks healthy at the moment, said after they had been rejected at all of those health facilities, knew that something wasn’t right about his sick passenger’s illness. “When I got home, I chlorinated my entire vehicle. I repeated it the next day before I got back in the traffic,” he stated
Regardless, ultimately the error in allowing the Texas Ebola patient the freedom to spread his disease in the US resides with our government, not Liberia's.

The clear answer is to stop treating him. We take away all care and keep him in isolation until he dies. Then people might stop coming.

Actually, we just suspend all travel into the US by any person bearing a passport from any of these countries, and quarantine any US citizen that has been to any of these countries for a month in isolation at the airport.

we should have done that a month ago but yea put that in along with publicizing that we aren't going to treat dick heads that purposely bring it here. we could also label him a terrorist and send him to GITMO and have him kill all the prisoners.

Yep. He might not have thought about going to prison, but even if he did, he probably figures that it is better to go to jail than to face certain death from Ebola.
Interesting dynamic that we have here with our open borders and an emerging pandemic in Africa now jumping into America via foreign travel.
I wonder what Obama is going to do to address this and lead our nation?

I'm assuming that he already had the trip planned, and then foolishly exposed himself to Ebola after he bought his ticket, probably out a sense of compassion for his neighbor. It doesn't make sense that he would expose himself to Ebola, and then decide to purchase a ticket to fly here three days later, and at least eight days before he had any symptoms, just in case he had caught Ebola. And don't forget that trans-Atlantic plane tickets that are purchased that close to the departure date are prohibitive. It also doesn't make sense that he purchased his ticket months ago, with the intention of exposing himself to Ebola a few days before he was due to leave, unless you believe he's some sort of biological suicide terrorist. The people who are likely to purchase a ticket only a few days before the departure date in a fit of panic are going to be the people who realize that they have Ebola symptoms, and those folks won't make it through the airport screening.

Almost like the Southern border problem, to a degree..
