How Are the Top DLine Prospects in the Nation Not Lining Up At LSU's Door?

Proven track record of getting them in the NFL quickly.

Good track record of player development.

If they are any good at all, they will play right away and will likely start for 3 years.

It seems like that if you are a top flight Defensive Lineman (especially a DT), you would be looking hard at LSU and realize that playing time is immediately available in a tradition rich program where your immediate predecessors are all in the NFL.

How is the 2015 class NOT blowing up with recruiting the DLine? The OLine for that matter, too. We will have major attrition there this year.

I doubt it's the case, but Ego, Freak, Mickey Johnson, Herron, Bain, and Gilmore were all highly touted. Not one has led up to the billing. Players might think it's the coaching not developing them.

Because theyre all OOS this year. It's hard to pull your whole position class OOS. In state DT's this year is weak.

It's just a bad luck situation

Instate DL's this year aren't that great, and the ones that are OOS aren't interested

Next year is completely different. A LOT of instate talent and we are leading for quite a few OOS talent.

i understand the oos argument but good recruiters should be able to find 2 quality guys. oos is a major part of it but staff recruiting is a big part also.

Well... we have a weak DL class in state for 2015, and out of state guys are just that... out of state.

I mean what do you want us to do to get them here? Kidnap them and force them to sign with us? The top DL prospects have options all over the country at the top schools. LSU is def in that group, and we always have visits loaded with big time players. But its pretty hard to get 1 of those to sign with you on NSD. I mean think about it... Each of the top DL pretty much have their pick of the top schools in the country... only 1 school gets them.

People dont realize how tough the recruiting aspect of college football
really is, especially when it comes to getting highly touted players from OOS. We always get a few a year, which is great. But our roster is most likely 70% in state players.

2016 has some big DL recruits though.

Need to fix the problem now or unfortunately that 2016 class won't mean all that much.

Brick was hot on the rumor to leave last year and this year from what I gather its a given he is gone from what I understand.

I'm sure that has had an influence as well. But then again offensive line and defensive line coaches change all the time.

LSU needs to drastically up its recruiting budget to be able to compete. LSU is getting passed up facility wise too, we are just average at best now in the SEC in terms of facilities.

You can't be serious?

Get this crap out of here.

This is LSU we are talking about. Formerly known as "DLineU." How does Alabama come into Louisiana and get top talent? How did Florida do it this past year? How does Mississippi State have better lines on both sides than LSU?

You are going to say that it is HARD? Whatever. This is an arms race and if you can't keep up, then you have to fire whoever isn't getting the job done and find who can do it.

We aren't developing the players we get and we aren't getting top notch players at these positions. You don't just "whiff" on that many 4-5 star prospects while Miss. St. dominates you on both lines of scrimmage.

I have always liked Haley. I am not actually wanting to get rid of him. But, something has to change. The problem is here and 2015 does not look to have a solution. So, that means it will just get worse.

Honestly, I am getting a bit tired of hearing about the 2016 class. We have massive holes to fill in 2015. Why can't we do it?

This is not a "sky is falling" post. It is an assessment of the situation and asking what the solutions might be.

I've heard people blame Brick. I didn't play Dline, so I wouldn't know how to grade a coach at that position. It was just a few years ago that Miles and everyone else was saying he was one of the best in the business. So what's with the change of heart?

I assume you are talking about DE because Herron, Gilmore, and Valentine were all highly touted. Bowers and Clark were also highly sought DE prospects. All of these guys are OOS which IMO makes it more impressive.

And the DT prospects for 2016 are already lining up to play at LSU. Several of them have reservations.

6 Fr/2 Soph/

Mickey, Valentine, and Lealaimatafao aren't even listed on the Depth Chart

Quentin Thomas 6-4 303 Jr.
Davon Godchaux 6-4 298 Fr.
Frank Herron 6-4 278 Fr.-RS
Greg Gilmore 6-5 305 Fr.-RS
Christian LaCouture 6-5 300 So.
Lewis Neal 6-1 255 So.
Maquedius Bain 6-4 299 Fr.-RS

Youth is a major problem. We also lost 2 underclassman to the draft last year at this position. A possible problem with this group is actually its surprising depth. Until attrition opens some of these spots we need to give playing time to everyone available and by doing so we will create a better game day depth chart and prevent fatigue. Fresh bodies would possibly remedy a lot of these 250 yard rushing performances.

This makes no sense. Guy is still out recruiting.

I also don't buy Brick just forgot how to coach all of a sudden.

I agree with this

and its unacceptable.
