Our dog is almost 2 and occasionally still has accidents in the house. We have tried everything... Rewards when he does right, punishment (hitting, loud noises, time out) when he has an accident. He will also mark when he is in unfamiliar environments (someone else's house.

Overall not a bad dog, i have taught him to sit, stay, come on command so I know he's not completely retarded.

Can the OD board give me anymore advice?

If he home alone when he's doing this?

Is he fixed?

Kennel train if it is happening when you are not at home.

I know this is a little late for your situation but, this is why nipping this in the bud is extremely important during puppy stage. From day 1, encourage going to the bathroom outside, and punish when the dog goes inside.

Rub his nose it in if caught in the act, and immediately put him outside for a period of time. If not caught until some time after, it will do no good to punish the dog, by that time, he had forgotten what he did. If you see him showing signs that he might be about to go, drag him outside, before he starts.

No..

ETA - supervision, confinement, and praise when they do right until they are trained - shouldn't be having accidents in the house unless they are marking or something else is going on..

Kennel training is the best way if it doesn't realize outside is the bathroom and take out frequently. Rubbing their face in it and admonishing them never works.

If it's intact marking is almost impossible to break.

That's exactly why I leave them outside the first 6 months and they understand THAT is where they need to piss/shyt.

It happens when we are home. Pretty good when we are away. I guess its possible he is looking for attention....

The accidents in our home are mostly shite and are maybe once a week.

When we go to a house he isnt familiar with its urine and much more frequent.

I take him out very often and he has someone at home with him 75% of the time.

He also has a bell on the door that he rings when he has to go out, and that works the majority of the time. So i don't doubt that he knows the connection between outside and bathroom.

Crate him when inside.

I am not a fan of dogs in the house. This is why.

They should be here in 2 weeks. Last breeding was on the 20th of August. Just is time for baby's 1st birthday party, but they'll be ready for Christmas pups

Do you allow him to graze on his food - if so change this, feed him in 15mins however many times a day you feed - if you need to add a little soft food to make him eat quicker.

perfect for having a bunch of 1 year olds get their fingers bit by razor puppy teeth. Hermit Jr. will be chasing them around.

All this does is let them know what it smells like.

If a dog feels like the ONLY place them do their business is outside.... life is easy.

If it's random might be something triggering it - excitement or change in food - why I am not a fan of table scraps.

various ailments can also cause this especially with poop.

our pup ate about a dozen cicadas the other night - didn't matter where he was when they decided to evacuate his bowels - they evacuated....

some dogs figure it out real quick.. others do not...

There's really no point in punishing one for taking a crap in the house, unless you catch him in the middle of the act.

Is he going in the same spot?

I always confine mine to the room I am in, close doors, barriers etc. Dogs won't crap in their "den", however the den needs to be sort of small, this is why keeping one in a kennel/crate is the best way to house train one.

Marking will never end.

I also suggest feeding once or twice a day, then going outside for 30 minutes or until dog poops, after eating.
