How did it go? What product and technique was used? Have you gotten to the point of doing more than a couple vehicles?

I have done tons of internet research and am ready to tackle my car and get the swirlies out. TIA for replies.

Edit: title.

I don't understand why sanding has become the go to method for all defects on vehicle paint.
Too many DIY'ers watching Speed Channel.

First, what paint defect are you trying to correct?

Easy. Hard to mess things up with a dual action.

Porter Cable dual action polisher. Polish depends on how aggressive you need to be. I started with Meguauiar's line of polishes. Also look into their microfiber cutting pads. Always use the least aggressive approach to get the desired results.

Yes. It's time consuming but not exactly rocket science.

Actually you're right. Sanding was the wrong thing to type in. Changing thread title.

Major swirls is what I am removing. White pearl paint so not all that obvious to see. Just something I want to do.

Dual action polishers work OK. They aren't as aggressive as the standard rotary polishers. If you're just removing swirl marks, a DA polisher will work fine. Just be sure to actually polish the swirls out instead of just filling them with wax.

Use any of the following with a foam polishing pad, and you'll have success:

As much as any poor person can be.

I enjoy good sound and always have. One day I'll be able to indulge as I want.

I used the porter cable DA sander and this kit

Pretty hard to mess up if you follow the directions. Of course I didn't follow the directions and didn't have my DA sander turned up high enough, so I didn't do a good job. No damage to the paint, just wasted several hours of my time.

Well I just pulled the trigger and got the porter cable on order. That along with hex logic orange and white pads and Meguiar's 105 and 205. Should be here before the weekend. Will give it a whirl on the trunk first to see how things turn out. One pearl white vehicle and one pearl champagne one. If I can master this I'll have no problem getting a dark colored vehicle in the future.
