I had not heard this previously.
Not that it matters a great deal, but interesting this would not have been more prominently mentioned, if true.
quote:

After many lectures like this, Obama decided to take a second look at Wright's church. Older pastors warned him that Trinity was for "Buppies"--black urban professionals--and didn't have enough street cred. But Wright was a former Muslim and black nationalist who had studied at Howard and Chicago, and Trinity's guiding principles--what the church calls the "Black Value System"--included a "Disavowal of the Pursuit of 'Middleclassness.'"

Hadn't heard this either:
quote:

On tape and on the record, Mr. Wright claims that in 2008, the Obama campaign offered $150,000 to buy his silence. If this is true - and I stress if - Mr. Obama may have committed a crime, and if so, he should be prosecuted and sent to prison. Wrightgate could bring down the Obama presidency.

=======

Mr. Wright alleges that Dr. Eric Whitaker, a close Obama friend, sent an email proposing $150,000 to muzzle the pastor; Mr. Wright says he refused. (The Obama administration recently awarded a $6 million grant to the University of Chicago Medical Center’s Urban Health Initiative. Who runs the initiative? You guessed it: Dr. Whitaker.) Then, Mr. Wright claims, Mr. Obama personally visited him, urging the pastor to remain silent and do nothing that would cripple the Obama candidacy.

According to Mr. Klein, Mr. Wright directly contradicts Mr. Obama’s narrative of having little contact with Trinity United Church. Instead, Mr. Wright alleges that he was Mr. Obama’s close spiritual and political adviser, someone who for more than 20 years shaped the future president’s worldview. In fact, the pastor claims that he was like “a second father” to Mr. Obama.

Furthermore, Mr. Wright says Mr. Obama possessed an “Islamic background” and despite his conversion to Christianity has never abandoned his Muslim roots.

Let's bring on President Biden. We should at least have a few laughs while we're getting fricked.

Not digging into the Wright issues is the greatest disservice by the media for the last 60 years. No man sits in a church for 20 years unless he is hook line and sinker involved with what that church is saying.

I imagine that many in the media already knew this and simply refused to cover it knowing that if they did vigorously, Obama would have never been elected.

I've never heard Trinity United described that way, but Oprah, Melissa Harris-Perry and Tamron Hall are also former members.

Actually it was both Barack and Michelle who went to Wright's house and tried to get him to chill out, and Newsweek reported it at the time.

This is revisionist history. Obama announced to the whole world that Wright was like a father to him in his speech on race on 3/18/08. And he also admitted that he was very familiar with Wright's politics and rhetoric.

Is it revisionist history that Obama pretended he didn't know what was preached from the pulpit in the 20 something years in the church?

J.W stated a long time ago he was propositioned for his silence.

The Media's silence was deafening.

There are certainly many on this board that fit this description, but NC_Tigah is not one of them. He is, for the most part, a very erudite and informed poster, and honestly one of the better ones on the board.

It doesn't matter. Obama already won twice.

2017 can't get here fast enough.

A lot of what wright spouts is more like Nation of Islam hate speech, which is more like Scientology mixed with comic book fantasy than traditional Islam.

Four years ago US News did a story about the right's obsession with Wright and it continues today.

Do a google search of his name and every wacko right wing site has some crazy story about him. It's part of the meme: Benghazi, IRS, fast & furious and Jeremiah Wright. He'll search those term on this site and they come up together. It's like zombies repeating it over and over and over. The echo just keeps reverberating.

One would think conservatives would finally get that Americans want to hear what their plans are for the future but nope... We get Benghazi, IRS, fast & furious and Jeremiah Wright.

Benghazi, IRS, fast & furious and Jeremiah Wright

Benghazi, IRS, fast & furious and Jeremiah Wright

Benghazi, IRS, fast & furious and Jeremiah Wright

I'm not quite sure what the purpose is considering Obama isn't running for anything.

He never did any such thing, and if he did you would provide the quote. Here's what he said on that matter a few days after FOX News started the Wright tapes on video loop:

"For some, nagging questions remain. Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely"
