Three specific things I think are hurting this team.

1. Not signing Carl Nicks. Tough to say if our o line would be better. But "I think" it would be.

2. High DB draft picks are not working out. Not that specific I guess, but maybe the most damning problem with our defense.

3. Galette and Jordan really don't seem to be having a huge impact and taking heat off of our secondary. Maybe that's why we were so good last year.

One real simple reason: tackling has been horrible

This is certainly true. Could easily be #2 as far as our offensive problems.

Eh

If depth was an issue, sure. It isn't depth though, it seems to be scheme and talent.

Meh, we pretty much are getting the same results with Baptiste pick.

This is a huge problem IMO.

Fundamentals...

Tackling on defense specifically, reducing mental errors, and the whole team is not winning 1-on-1 match-ups. For how complicated a game football is made out to be, the basic part of the game is the most important. Winning your matchups - if you are a lineman you have to be stronger and more physical than the man across from you, if you are a receiver you have to close on the ball faster than the man covering you. The team is not playing well as individuals.

Over-reliance on the screen game.

Sean - it's fricking obvious and everyone has figured it out. It's time to stop.

Did we even run a screen until the game was over yesterday?

I think the use of the screen game has been very effective this year

It's not just about depth. Since when have 2nd round picks been viewed only as developmental players? 2nd rounders are drafted with intentions of them being starters.

We used it a couple of times on the opening drive, I think. Dug ourselves a hole, stopped the screen and never utilized Pierre.

Might as well do away with the 2nd rounders every draft then. Do you realize how ridiculous you sound? Why draft anyone at all if that's the case. Truth is, no one knows what type of talent the Saints could have gotten with those picks but to totally dismiss it because of the latest 2nd round pick is foolish.

Well of course but what hint has Mickey given that these wouldn't be more disappointing DBs?

Who said those picks had to be DB's only? While that maybe a position of need now, it wasn't a season or two ago.

and the ridiculous punishment from Goodell cost us a 2nd rounder in 2012 and 2013.

there is no sure thing that we make a good pick with those lost picks but I sure as hell wish we could have tried.

Goodell really is a sorry human being.
