I hate Ole Miss with a passion ,but freeze and that damn 4-2-5 defense creates havoc and hell when you have aggressive fast players with a nose for the ball .

FS: Mills
Spur: Adams
Bandit: Thomas
CB: White , Robinson
WLB: Kwon
SLB: Beckwith
DE: Hunter , Bower
DT: Godchaux, Lacoture

Subs: Paris, Collins, Martin, Jefferson,Thompson Debo, Riley, Clark, Rasco, Bain, Q. Thomas

This

Instead of this

I'd take that but we'd need huge Defensive ends

Our nickel scheme is fine.

Dwayne Thomas is great and 1 of our best players on D.

The scheme isnt the issue. It doesnt matter if we run the 4-2-5 or regular nickel. We are weak at DT and MLB.

The 4-2-5 would get another player up, but it doesnt really help us against runs in the middle. It helps against runs on the outside because you have another guy player the outside. But it wont help us in the middle, which is where we are most vulnerable.

This. The 4-2-5 is almost literally the same thing as the Nickle. But the 4-2-5 would be our base defense which is an issue in this league because it makes you susceptible to runs up the middle. Which we got obliterated by last week. Also, our Strong side and Weak side LBs are as talented as anyone else's. Leave them in to defend the run and swith to a Nickle or Dime depending on the circumstance.

Could it not create a situation where our DT's are primarily focused on single gap assignments thus making their job easier? The DT's we have right now don't seem to have the ability to control 2 gaps. I think we need to do more slanting, even though Chavis doesn't do much of that. It would also be easier to disguise blitzes.

Would definitely make us more vulnerable to the passing game, but that's supposed to be our strength, right?

Not really. Only way that would happen is if we blitzed the SS / CB from that side and crashing the DE and DT inside. But that's just 1 play and we could do that in our nickel anyways.

And most of the time when we go sub package, it's when the other team spreads it out or in an obvious pass situation. And the SS/CB on that side would be guarding a skill position player for the other team. Which means he has no affect on the DL.

Really wouldn't change anything for out DL. And the 4-2-5 really isn't that much different that our nickel scheme wise. Just walk the SS up from his usual spot and then it's pretty much the 4-2-5
