First higher education, then refusing billions in Medicaid expansion and now bankrupting the OGB budget. Ridiculous.
OGB will run out of money by July 2015

no you fool......Obama did this

They were right for reducing the amount because there's no need to sit on money like that, beyond covering accrued liabilities.
Of course he handled it all wrong an used the money to plug holes in budgets. He also is probably going about it all wrong in that it will get us (tax payers) sued when retirees find out that their medicine is no longer covered.
Also, there's shennanigans with contracts and lobbyists from BCBSLA.

He lowered the premiums so the state--which pays 75% of the premium--could make lower payments. Please don't spin it that it was done in the interests of the employees and retirees. They lowered premiums to the point they were insufficient to cover claims and then began draining the reserves. Now it's time to pay the piper and he's trying to get the state employees to pay for it.

Former Gov. Edwin W. Edwards sat with the insured.
I don't know if EWE will win, but he will do a lot better than a lot of people expect, because of things like this. He may be a crook, but he is also perceived as being for the little guy.

Yep. State gon get sued again.
Providers of HMOs are complaining that there was no bid process and that they can provide HMO plans for as cheap if not cheaper than BCBSLA's offerings, which aren't as good.

They also raided some of those reserves to plug budget holes for completely unrelated agencies.
But let's use state funds to go to other states and fund-raise for their politicians because that's okay.
He's creating a a giant shite-stew of budget problems for the next Governor.

Kristi Nichols was forced to admit today that the rate of cost increases at OGB did not go up after the ACA. She is getting beaten down in this hearing.

Yeah, he reduced the only medical cost that the state has to match....

There has always been a "giant shite stew" of budget problems due to the fact that there are only a few things that can be touched.

He could have used some of that political capital he came into office with to try to do something about that. Instead, he got busy pandering to anybody he thought might help him in the presidential primaries.
