So decided to try out for MasterChef

After a couple people kept hassling me I decided to go for. It's on Saturday in Nola, but I am having a hard time figuring out what I want to do, considering the stipulations.
Only have 3 minutes to plate your dish
No way to heat, cook, or do anything with the food at the audition except plate.
Thus everything must already be cooked and prepared before arriving.
No clue how long I will have to wait
I am looking to cook something that stands out but it's not easy coming up with something creative that has to sit for god knows how long. Any ideas?

When my brother was on he did a venison dish at the audition, even though it had to sit. He made it through to Los Angeles, so I'm guessing the judges deal a lot with that issue.

I did grilled asparagus, braised lamb shank, and mushroom risotto b/c I thought they would hold up well even if they cooled off.
I bought a square white plate to plate my dish. 3 minutes is plenty time for plating.
ETA: I made it through that round and the first few rounds of interviews.

Crabmeat maison or shrimp remoulade

How long did you have to wait?
I am just debating in my head a bunch of things that I do a lot but dont want it to be too cliche for New Orleans.
Which it seems you and Boo's brother kinda stayed away from that.

45-60 minutes probably. But I got snuck to the front of the line by the chick who "recruited" me.
They have groups of 10-20 people who all plate at the same time. Then 3 judges walk around and look at your food, they may taste it, they may ask you questions about it, they may not.
There were probably 200+ people at the casting call I went to.
ETA: people traveled from AL/MS/etc. to the casting call I went to in NOLA>

The one i got hooked up said the same thing. Hopefully she does.
ETA: She just told me I am a VIP (whatever that means) and get to skip the line at the casting call

Interesting. So plating and creativity is a huge factor just for them to taste it I guess.

Thinking about a crusted lamb carpaccio, marinated tomatoes, Minted tabouli, arugula salad with a rosemary mustard sauce.

All I do is watch the show, but I would be creative in what you cook showing you have technical skills, show you can be creative in plating and how the plate goes together, and show whatever kinda unique personality you have. I'd venture a guess they look for characters that would make a good tv show as much as how well you can cook.

Does anyone remember those square "sushi" type sandwiches someone made for the chopped challenge on here?
Those had a really good look to them and they popped IMO.
I would do something like that.

"So plating and creativity is a huge factor"
I really hope you make it on, but I am guessing that unless you are quirky or great looking, it is an uphill battle.
Yes, I am a cynic.

idk about quirky but I got the rest of it.
Just hope I get to the round where I submit a video because I have a great idea to separate myself if it works out right.

That would be cool if someone from here got on.
From what I can tell, they could have all the contestants from this board. There seems to be major game here.

shite I could even throw out a sob story if they want it. I know producers eat that up

You have a learning disability or a cleft lip or anything? That blind girl did good a season or two ago
