Is the QB or Miles meddling more to blame for the stagnation on offense?

Miles has been here since 2005 and has had 4 different offensive coordinators, each of varying perceived skill. During that time his most prolific offenses were in 2006-2007 as well as 2013 - seasons that featured 3 different coordinators. More importantly, those seasons also included exceptional talent at the WR position and 3 NFL quarterbacks. Not surprisingly, the QBs in our down years haven't made an NFL roster.

Sure there are individual drives or even games, like Saturday, where the staffs' decisions on offense are questionable, but Miles has shown time and again that he is more than capable of a high powered offense when the talent is there. Rather than viewing it as "handcuffing" the offense when we have relatively weak QBs, I think it is much more plausible that Miles and the staff attempt to focus on the teams perceived strengths and try to win games in that manner. See 2011.

I don't believe the staff is above any criticism by any means. However, in the case of the offense this year and from 2008-2012, I believe, if anything, Miles deserves more criticism for not recruiting/developing the players at the QB position rather than criticism for a vanilla gameplan. I'd also like to point out that I fully believe the stretch from 2008-2011 would have been much different had Perrilloux not been such an idiot. Had he stayed on the team and started in 2008 and 2009, with Lee or Jefferson in 2010 and 2011, Miles would be looked at in a much different light, specifically on the offensive side of the ball.

TL;DR - Miles and the staff have had prolific offenses when the talent on offense was exceptional, despite the coordinator or Miles perceived meddling in the offense. This team has a considerable amount of talent, but they are very young. In the next two years, LSU will likely have a high powered offense as the talent matures and gains experience, despite whatever handicap the Rant believes Miles brings to the table.

There are coaches out there that have prolific college offenses without future NFL QBs. They are innovative enough to put their QB and other offensive personnel in positions to succeed. Miles let Jimbo run the 05-06 offense and since has demanded things be done according to his philosophy.

Jennings missed many opportunities against MSU to make plays. The right plays were called for Jennings to have success

When you don't have a defense that can't stop an SEC team, you don't just continue to pound the ball up the middle until you are down 3 scores.

No. I blame inefficient quarterback play on a stagnant offense. In 2007 we actually ran a pretty decent spread with Flynn and had great success offensively. In the follow years we had two busts in JJ/JL which resulted in a smash mouth gameplan. Then in 2013 we had a NFL QB and broke SEC offensive records. This year we have regressed back to a QB who can't throw a slant route. Pattern.
