what the hell is wrong with people that they can't see how dangerous this is?

1 cop gets killed and they're going to lock down an entire county, run around in helicopters and armored vehicles wearing camo and army helmets? Truly world gone mad. Cops really have come to see themselves as an occupying army. There is no possible justification for keeping people out of their homes, this is just another example of what happens when local cops start using military gear and clothes, they play army.

absolutely no perspective. cops mentality has changed from policing to occupying military force in a war on drugs, terror, and an enemy local populace that just gets in the way of their little war games.

What would you have them do?

The area is mostly rural, so they are locking down a couple of reserves. A few people have houses right in the middle of everything so the houses are on lock down as well.

From what I understand police have already opened up most of the roads. LINK

If you are going to use marshal law and shut down roads you need to do it in a lawful, orderly manner.

Bunch of idiots being tacti-cool and running around with their guns out is not safe, effective, or orderly.

no reason at all for

* people not allowed to go to their homes
* armored vehicles
* army hats/helmets and camo
* military rifles

search for the guy the same way they would search for any other suspected murderer....it's not that complicated. Penn is not Iraq requiring assault rifles and army gear. New Orleans may be, but the Penn countryside is not.

Can you really not see the danger in a local police force acting this way only as a result of 'one of their own' getting shot? The mentality is that of an occupying army, not a local police force.

From what I have heard from residents who live there, they are happy to have the police presence and want this guy caught post haste.

The difference is this guy isn't just a cop killer, he's a cop assassin. He didn't shoot a cop in a robbery-gone-bad scenario, he targeted them as they sat in a squad car.

Any man who will shoot cops sitting in a car has the capability of just about anything else. Who is to say he won't take a school hostage or invade a home?

When you assassinate a cop, you don't just attack that person, you attack the government, law and order of society.

I hope this coward doesn't even get his day in court and decides to go out in a gun battle, with him being the only casualty of course.

A lot of people actually trust police officers. I absolutely do not. Cops shouldn't be deploying assault rifles against the people they are serving.

Cops are such wimps, they really are. They overreact to everything and never fail to escalate the tension.

then you didn't read the article in the link titled 'Eric Frein search has some neighbors upset at Pa. troopers over roadblocks'

I disagree, this is the mentality of an occupying army and supporting this type of state worship breeds abuse of power.

point proven, thanks

You need a little better perspective on what's going on up there and quit being a whiney pussy.

You should take a lesson in explaining your perspective before casting stones.

I'd be livid if I was forced into my home so they could search for a guy who killed a cop.

Did you support the home to home warrantless searches after the Boston bombing?

Boy, looks like a repeat of Boston

I'd be interested in knowing if they are forcing themselves into peoples homes without warrants?

quote:

The massive search for 31-year-old Eric Frein, who is charged with killing one trooper and wounding another, has resulted in frequent unannounced and indefinite roadblocks in the village of Canadensis. Some people have ended up sleeping in their cars because their neighborhoods were cordoned off.

In a statement Tuesday night, police said they have been "diligent in respecting the rights of the public while working hard to keep both residents and law enforcement personnel safe."

btw, all the accounts that I have read state that this guy is in the woods, as he is a survivalist.

What does it matter that it was a cop killed? Is that was an average joe who got shot and killed by this lunatic would it have you less upset about the man-hunt?

I for one would welcome any all all police forces armed to the teeth including military themselves if I lived up there and an armed and dangerous lunatic was on the run near my home.

Police have already said that he poses no harm to the public, he is only out after law enforcement.

Not true. They said they believe he is targeting cops, they didn't say that he poses "no harm". Big difference.

if an average joe was killed (in the exact same way), there wouldn't be this sort of manhunt
