I just drew for December 13-14.

Put your time in like I have and learn yourself! It's tough country. Killing a good deer out there requires luck, scouting and traveling some distance. Also, buddy hunting to cover some reasonable ground together helps.

ETA: oh and there are no deer out there either.

Yep, Plan to scout it hard, and knew all that already.

But, it's 2014, and I will utilize very single tool that is available to me, including the internet. It would be stupid to not try.

On a gun day, there will be lots of people out there. Last year, I hiked in late after 2 or three days of hard hunting. I must have walked within 30 yds of 6 different people in orange vests already set up. I will not take that route again. Oh well, that's public land hunting...

where ya staying?

IDK, depends on water. I plan on bow hunting it in October, so I'll keep an eye on water.

If I do duck it, it'll only be after the crossed finger freezes in second split.

Pretty sure the Gueydan lease fell through, so looks like I'm hoofing it again this season. Shits starting to wear on me.

Yeah, I'm either thinking of bow hunting Tensas in early November and learning from that or heading up early for some scouting a few days before gun hunt.

I've never stepped foot on the place

I do have a buddy that works with LDWF biology, I will hitting him hard for info

I used to kill in Tensas quite a bit. From what I understand the premise for gun day is still the same.

Scout the week before, find the area furthest away from all entry points. Get a cart or go with a group and walk in. We used to walk over an hour. Find the thickest woods you can find, and fresh trails. Look for kicked up leaves, not big wallowed out trails. They will leave all established areas as soon as the onslaught of four wheelers hits em.

Walk far, sit long, and hope somebody doesn't stumble in on you about 30 minutes after daylight. Oh, and don't get lost.

Bruin can be nice in the winter if you are on the closest side of the lake, that drive is just way too far from the inside loop. Also rentals are very cheap in the winter.

It would be a ok drive to the SE corner.

You can also go hit yucatan or lake st joe as well, or maybe try your luck in the ms river for ducks.
