Had to be 3rd and 10 for Miss. State early in 3rd qtr backed up on their own 20 w LSU down only 17-10 after just scoring on defense. The screen pass after rolling one way and passing the other was a well designed play by the QB and the Miss. State coaching staff. It was one of those plays you run once a game and it worked! Props to Miss. State. They were the better team on Sat. night. Time to move on.......

And yet this thread

That was a great play call by them. I thought we had him cornered.

Agreed. My fear is this is just the beginning of a very long sad season. I pray to God I am wrong, but it's not looking favorable.

...and unfortunately EVERYONE watching knew exactly what three plays were scripted.

Hey Les...Michigan has won one national title since 1948. It's time to stop running into a stacked line of scrimmage to gain 1-2 yards.

You're leaving a young QB in third and long and it's never going to work.

it's just hilarious to me that these were scripted plays. LSU has had all off season to prepare and those are the three plays they run against the first SEC team?

Les should be embarrassed. but it's not. he's arrogant.

I think Les believes that winning football is all about will and that he wants to impose his will on the other team, so he runs those plays knowing that the other guys know what is coming.

But I am afraid that the season defining series was the failure to score with four plays from the two yard line. We will look back and say this showed that our line was not and never would be what we hoped, or it will motivate them to where they do become dominant. For me, I see too many errors and missed assignments all though the team, especially up front, to have any major improvements.

We are a young team. State has experience at every position. Relax. The team will come together and improve. One loss doesn't put us out of anything. If we win out we control our destiny. I liked what I saw out of Harris and the line at the end of the game. Porter needs to improve. Defense needs to tackle on first contact. That's what killed us last night. We had players in position and they missed tackles. We need leadership, but the season isn't over and it's not all doom and gloom. Hopefully this motivates the team to perform and we see great growth out of our "rebuilding" team.

This reminded me of a team over the past 5-6 yeats when state converted on that 3rd and 10 after we just made it 17-10, 3 plays after that is when Prescott made that throw for a TD after being flushed out of the pocket. The team that it reminded of is our very own LSU tigers.

Think about games in the past when WE needed to get that first or answer when a team has scored on us. We would carry that swagger on the next drive.

What I draw from this game is simple. It's a wake up call to all players staff and everything.

We showed blitz early, because they faked a snap count, Prescott backed out looked to the sideline, and got a call from the pressbox. Many defenses check out of the blitz when that happens. Not Chavis, we just stayed at the line of scrimmage, blitzed from our left side, and Miss St ran a perfect blitz beater screen right where the blitz left a hole. Outcoached on that play, plain and simple.

That would be one of two plays that come to mind. The other was just before halftime where the Tigers nearly got a Pick 6 off of a scramble shuttle pass attempt. That would have had the tigers within 7 after an absolute disaster of a first half.

Yes, it's time to move on and hopefully, LSU can improve and learn from their mistakes...but I don't think it was any one play that lost this game for the Tigers, we were beat from the opening KO until the last 4 minutes of the game...Out coached and out played, period...mistakes are one thing, being manhandled like that is an asswhoopim!!! My hat is off to the dogs...

If we could've sustained drives this gameplan would have worked Bc state would've been wore out. But into the fourth quarter the state defense wasn't on the field very much an when u have 250lb LB's fresh an flying around you aren't running the ball up the middle. State had a perfect matchup to us. We should have recognized throwing the ball was gonna win us the game sooner rather than later. Hub dive don't work against Chris jones and benardrick McKinney. That's all Americans in my book. GG dawgs. We got y'all next year.

It is not beyond me to realize that your advice is well spoken. With that being said, we will go forward and make our quality opponents earn their wins by stopping our well planned offense. Our players have a sincere want to excel, but will unfortunately be placed in positions that do not utilize their individual talents.

Thanks for your participation.

We actually had the play somewhat covered...but he was able to pick up the first.

As for the OP, it was a big play, but I really think Dupre not getting into the endzone on the half-back pass was it. He scores, you never have 4th and goal and the subsequent 98 year drive.

Not his fault. He had to stop for the ball (not blaming Magee...it just is what it is) and then take off whereas the MSU defender was closing at full speed at the proper angle

Meh. We got a pass interference call soon after and led to a first and goal at the 2 yd line. You HAVE to punch that in. But I guess when you have 5 years worth of game film of only ramming the ball into the endzone, teams don't have to worry about anything but tackling the fullback or tailback.
