How incompetent is the White House secret service detail?

This guy jumped the fence, sprinted across the front lawn, entered the White House through an unlocked door, before being allegedly arrested INSIDE the RESIDENCE of the President of the United States
This guy made it all the way to the eagle's nest and he was armed with a knife.
Someone will most definitely be fired.

So one incident like this makes them incompetent. This shite with people trying to get in happens more than people think.

Yes, it does. They are charged with protecting the most powerful man in the world. There is absolutely no excuse for a nut to get inside the White House, let alone get inside the presidential residence with a deadly weapon in his possession.
It's not like this guy jumped the fence and ran laps for a few minutes.

Yea right.
So what if he had had a bomb vest packed with HE.
He didn't so they are all good.

Clinton spoke at my undergrad school during his reelection campaign. I walked over from the dorm to see it, taking my usual route. I ended up entering the speaking area from a different side than where people were going through security, thus never going through the metal detectors or any other security checks. I got close enough to shake Clinton's hand after the speech.
Scared me a little when I realized later how close I had gotten to the President without going through any security check.

I clicked on one of the links in the article. I forgot all about the Secret Service and their hookers in Columbia.

They stop people trying more than you think.
Who ever fricked up will get fired or given the shite detail.

I wouldn't call all of them incompetent b/c someone fricked up, thats all.

They seem about as engaged in their job as the president is in his. I wonder if there's a correlation?
Posted on 9/21/14 at 5:18 pm to RollTide1987
President doesn't take his job seriously, why should the Secret Service?

I'm gonna say that protecting the 1st family is job #1.
They seem to suck at it.
There are no excuses.
Do your only job and do it better than any one else.

The truth is a lot of it is just security theater designed to stop anybody from even considering an attempt.
Granted, this was clearly incompetence because the guy actually got inside but close calls probably happen a lot more than we know.
Forget Colombia where the SS were bringing hookers into their rooms while all of their protocols for the trip were just hanging out in plain sight; we're just thirty years removed from the President strolling to his car out in the open and the SS just ditty bopping behind him while some random nut pulls out a gun and unloads on him.

I for one, don't want anything to happen to the president. The last thing we need is for this prick to become a martyr.

it's a colossal frick up ... the potus, whether you like him or not, is the most powerful person in the world ... you think anyone ever made it over a fence into saddam's palaces? (outside of the US military) ... putin's residences? ... the entire organization needs a shakeup, along with the security plan for the white house ...

You see, stuff like this I don't really mind so much. SS supposedly hates public events like this because it is almost impossible to secure fully.
But this is at their home turf. The only place I would really expect to be more secure is Camp David.

Even if the person got in he would be stopped... they got agent Sims protecting the family.

Important point:
The first family wasn't on site.
So that might explain a lot of the laspe.
But still.
Its the fricking WH.
I would expect sensors on the fence to detect climbers and there being a SS agent at the door waiting for him. Not him being to enter the front door unopposed.

Probably but it's still pretty bad.
The White House has enormous value as a symbol so you (obviously) still don't want something like this to happen because next time it could be Johnny Jihad with a grenade or a vest and then on worldwide TV we have pictures of a busted up home of the Leader of the Free World.
As Obama would say, it's "bad optics".
