Retard (looking at what the Braves got in the trade): "But none of them can hit!!11!!!11!"

Retard (after someone pointing out that Heyward really wasn't a very good hitter): "But look at his potential!!11!!!1!!!!"

Other than about 4 guys, that's one of the worst rosters in baseball.

What exactly are you arguing here?

Heyward at this point in time is a slightly above average hitter and elite at everything else. None of these players project anywhere close to that as players.

No doubt. Not much help in the upper minors either.

The offense is absolutely atrocious and the defense doesn't look much better outside of Simmons and possibly Bethancourt.

Pitching could be above average to good.

Get it done.

Hopefully they do not attach Gattis to him though. If we could get some more prospects for Gattis and dump CJ for salary relief that would be ideal.

Guess they've gotta trot someone out there at 3b. I still expect them to trade for valbuena or mcgee though.

If you're rebuilding for 2017 you don't sign Markakis. You keep and pay Heyward. But whatever.

this is the part of these moves i dont get. this doesnt really align with the 2017/future plans part of these deals.

what am i missing?

Write up on Fried before this season and his TJ surgery:

The Year in Review: One of the best left-handed pitching prospects in the game, Fried is quite polished for a teenager with just two pro seasons under his belt. He spent the 2013 season in Low-A ball where he allowed just 107 hits in 118.2 innings of work. He struggled a little more with his control than expected and he issued 56 free passes.

The Scouting Report: Fried does an outstanding job of staying on top of his pitches and pounds the lower half of the zone. Fried’s repertoire includes two potentially plus offerings in his low-to-mid-90s fastball and curveball. His changeup needs more development than the other two pitches but it should be average or better in time. He nibbles more than he needs to given his solid present stuff, which led to the higher walk rate, as well as a lower strikeout rate.

The Year Ahead: Fried will move up to High-A ball in 2014 but he could actually spend more time in Double-A. He could push for a big league promotion by the end of 2015.

The Career Outlook: Fried has the potential to develop into a No. 2 starter with the ability to rack up both strikeouts and ground-ball outs.

Keep forgetting that we got Viz back.

Not the best system, but gah damn, it's a whole lot better than it was when we started the offseason. It was atrocious before.

Please, God. Just give him and his contract to them. We don't even need a return.

Any idea why it's taking so long to get Almonte's contract together/announced?

If we could ditch Johnson without losing anyone else that would be huge. Put us closer to $30 mil under cap. Think we might try to deal BJ and eat some of his contract if we can manage it?

Yes the farm system looks slightly better than before. Only problem is the actual big league team looks like a dumpster fire. Whereas the last two seasons they had won the NL East and were at least competitive last season. Next yrs team may not even hit .150 as a team

Add another person to Team Smartass in the believer in 2015 column

This is not a top-down fire sale rebuild. Not even close. Based on the arms the Braves have they'll have a CHANCE to be relevant in '15.

I concur with his sentiment. Obviously at lot will depend on the pitching, but there's definitely a chance we can be relevant.

Pitching is certainly decent enough but the offense and defense look absolutely horrendous on paper.
