I like the volume of players you got for upton.

This is sort of what I meant since I have absolutely no clue how good of players any of these actually are

This. All of this. This is what's making a lot of fans so unhappy about these deals. If they had gotten Wacha for Heyward? I would be fine with it. But they didn't.

You can't expect teams best players when they are essentially signing your "best" players on 1 year deals.

I understand this. I think the Padres got a good deal, but that doesn't bother me. I think we did ok here. I don't understand the other moves if we are in rebuild mode.

If you're rebuilding for 2017 you don't sign Markakis. You keep and pay Heyward. But whatever.

Trade is decent but I am confused by the emphasis on Miller being a ML ready guy and signing Markakis if you're going to do this. This team is not even close to being competitive.

If you're into Minor League prospect rankings, the Braves got the Padres 3rd, 6th, and 14th ranked guys in the JUp deal.

FWIW I absolutely love the deal...Fried could be elite and Jace is close to the big leagues as a starting 2B...we will be stacked in 2017

All the scouting reports I've seen on Jace are that he is LaStella with positional versatility. Not an every day player on a good team.

This lineup may not even be the opening day lineup depending on Markakis and his neck surgery. Typical recovery time is 12 weeks for that. That puts him in the middle of ST by the time everything heals. Then he has to get back into baseball shape with no setbacks. So you are looking at possibly the 2nd month of the regular season before he returns.

Only the retards on this site could see a team trade one year of Justin Upton for

2012 7th overall pick (#43 prospect in the league)
2011 1st rounder
2013 second rounder
2012 5th rounder

and be upset about it

Upton is an elite player. That's not an elite return imo
And the guy is #68 prospect not 43 and he just had TJ in August

@BenBadler: Good chance the 2016 draft pick the Padres can get when Justin Upton leaves ends up better than any of the prospects they traded to Atlanta.

We did not get Hedges, Wisler or Renfroe.

I like the volume in the trade but do not act like we got some return that's going to turn us around. We really need Fried to bounce back from TJ and one of Smith/D Peterson to come in to his own.

Fried is likely a 2/3 starter. J Peterson is a borderline every day player in the La Stella mold, Smith is a lotto ticket with 80 speed and average-fringe everything else. D Peterson could become a nice hitter but is terrible defensively and has struggled to hit in the lower levels of the minors.

Fine with me. This will be the worst offense in the big leagues.

Why don't you go ahead and list some of those elite prospects someone would have traded us for the one year of Upton

I'll wait

ETA and he's number 43 on MLB...a 20 position difference isn't that big, he's a top LHP prospect. Some of you are fricking delusional
