Well the Braves acted like Upton was better than Heyward and they expected a better return for him than they got for Heyward. They certainly didn't get it. They got none of SD's elite prospects. Jenkins is the best prospect in either deal imo.

Ok...so should we have held Upton for another year (a season we are already looking past), gotten a 1st rounder in the 2016 draft for him and waited even longer to rebuild?

Or we should've forced someone to give us one of their elite prospects for one year? No delusion there

No. I said last page I am fine with the return. Decent, not great. I don't think the Markakis signing or asking for ML ready pitching for Heyward makes sense in conjunction with this.

Also think we should trade Gattis and Kimbrel now.

Ok, I meant to address the fricking brats on this board who think the Braves have a money tree out back and can just name their price in trades. They're delusional as shite.

I think it's a great return. We are setting up very nicely for the future and will have plenty of arms to move over the next 2 years.

And yeah I'd love to get rid of Gattis but no one will take BJ with him. Not sure about Kimbrel

I do not mind keeping BJ and cutting him when it's time to compete. Not like we need the money for that missing piece the next 2 years. Gattis will be 31 (playing LF?) with only 2 years of control in 2017. Why not trade him now and maximize his value.

Relievers are extremely overpaid and Kimbrel's deal is club friendly. There is no need for a closer when you aren't competing. He would fetch a huge return imo.

There is no reason that we shouldn't trade Kimbrel now to be honest.

I think he'll bring more value at the deadline

That's fine too. Whatever is best for the team whether it be now, February, or July.

Teams always start off the season thinking they've found the next stud reliever...then they morph into desperation at the deadline or fall into a closer by committee situation

Agreed. I think teams are more willing to overpay with prospects in July trades. As long as a player isn't a 2 month rental, that is probably the way to go.

We're now the fricking Astros. Only a matter of time before we sign fat arse Carlos Lee and 50 year old shriveled up roid dick Roger Clemens. frick this gay Earth.

Hart, Fredi, Wren, Liberty Media can all go get fricked by an AIDS infected horse dick. Just trade Freeman, Kimbrel, Simba, and Julio and get it done with. fricking Money Ball FTW. Trade for a bunch of fricking average prospects. The Barves have gotten raped about three times this this Fall/Winter. Oh, let's not pay JHey so we can go and buy Nick Markakis 31 broke neck arse.

fricking kill me now.

We have Kimbrel until '18 (club option) with a $1M buyout. Chances are we buy him out in '18 instead of paying him the $13M he would get. If we don't plan on being competitive until 2017, why keep a guy who we won't see more than 80 times a season (based off assumed win/loss record). During those assumed 80 wins, you will have blowouts or games where Kimbrel will not be needed. So that gets cut down to a certain number. Let's say that number is 50. He then is set for a 50 save potential season.. That's not including blown saves, etc. So no you are looking at 35-40 saves. Trade him now and let's stay true to the "building for the future" mentality. The return on Kimbrel would be amazing.

I'm dumbfounded by all the dumb people are typing up in this thread about this trade. This is a nice haul for one year of JUp.

I think most fans, myself included, are just disappointed with basically sending out a bunch of Rudy's for two seasons in Braves uniforms. For crist's sake this team won the NL East just two yrs ago with one of the youngest teams in all of baseball. And were one stupid decision to not bring in Kimbrell from god knows how far we would've gotten that season.

And let's be honest, the return we got for two of our best players is marginal at best. Maybe they'll be decent/good players or maybe this is the last we will ever hear from them.

Who's going to a braves game the next two seasons? I sure the hell ain't wasting my time or money to see that shite show

i think they could've gotten slightly more but nobody really knows how this trade will shake out until those prospects/if those prospects make it to the show. I agree to trade Kimbrel and just fully commit to rebuild. Somebody will overpay for his services thinking he's the missing piece to a WS run.

Yes.

We are about $24M under what our opening day payroll was last year with one roster spot open (backup C), which will cost at least $507K.

ETA: Almonte getting between $500K-$1M too. So more like $22.5-$23M left.
