With just days before the start of training camp, the Minnesota Timberwolves are making a final push to acquire restricted free-agent guard Eric Bledsoe in a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Suns, sources told ESPN.com.

The Wolves are offering Bledsoe the four-year, $63 million maximum-level contract that he has been seeking, sources said. Bledsoe and the Suns have been in a stalemate all summer after the team offered him a four-year, $48 million deal in July.

Bledsoe has made it clear to the Suns and any other team that he was only interested in signing a max contract and otherwise would sign a one-year, $3.7 million qualifying offer with the Suns that would enable him to become an unrestricted free agent next year.

The relationship between Bledsoe and the Suns has eroded over the contract impasse, and the Suns signed free-agent guard Isaiah Thomas to a four-year, $27 million deal in July after drafting guard Tyler Ennis in the first round in June.

So I guess they have Bledsoe at SG next to Rubio?

Rubio/Bledsoe would be one of the best defensive backcourts in the NBA, though I'm not sure how well Bledsoe plays off ball (though I guess he did it somewhat often last season with Dragic). Would be a blast to watch. This would have been big months ago, but to have such a big deal this late in the offseason is pretty awesome.

Pretty exciting. Pek in the middle. Still not a playoff team.

I like Bledsoe, but it would be poetic justice if the Suns match, he says his heart is in Minneapolis, then he gets fat and starts to suck dick.

Not a playoff team but they'll be right there around 9 or 10 fighting with the Pelicans to be the first team out.

Flip and the Wolves trying to be mediocre for life

They would have to get trade raped by the Suns for the Suns to want to do this anyway.

We'll see. It really is similar to the Gordon situation. The Suns clearly don't want to give him a max deal, but they don't want to let him go for nothing. Meanwhile, the Wolves know that the Suns would think that he's a bit overpaid under a max contract and won't give up much to get him. Most likely, the Suns reluctantly match the deal and the Wolves kill some of a competitor's cap space.

The Suns don't have to match. The Wolves are at $70 million in salaries, they can't sign him. They need the Suns to sign him and trade him. Wolves don't have any leverage.

“It’s been great catching up.”

And scene.

Gotcha ya. Didn't think to check their cap situation. Are they even allowed to trade either Wiggins or Bennett for the next few months?
