Per the WSJ today. It's available only in the subscriber edition today. So I'm only able to paste the opening paragraph for TD.

LBJ called. He wants his military strategy back.

quote:

WASHINGTON—The U.S. military campaign against Islamist militants in Syria is being designed to allow President Barack Obama to exert a high degree of personal control, going so far as to require that the military obtain presidential signoff for strikes in Syrian territory, officials said.

I love it. He's the military decider it looks like. What could go wrong? I mean he orchestrated the takedown of OBL, why not these airstrikes?

You would think that would be an automatic requirement, no?

The idea that any President, no matter who he is, can sit in DC and pick out military targets is insane.

I wonder if John Kerry has any more medals he can throw over the White House fence?

What could go wrong with a community organizer who has less military expertise than Dora the Explorer picking our ISIS targets?

He sets forth the mission, but leaves the targeting to the people who actually know what they're doing.

What he plans on doing is exactly what LBJ did, and that didn't work out too well did it?

Oh it's not unprecedented.

It's just that no one has been that stupid since 1968.

Before you all go full retard, why not think about WHY it might be a good idea for the President to OK targets in Syria?

You reckon Obama would appreciate our generals playing president for a day?

Obama really thinks he has all the answers for all the problems. Too bad he doesn't have the experience, or intelligence, to make those decisions.

So he can start with Assad's palace?

Thinking back to all those drone strikes, Obama sure does love pushing the red button doesn't he?

Try reading up on Viet Nam, and you may get your answer there.

If these strikes in Syria kill any civilians, being a country we are not at war with, could he be charged and indicted with war crimes?

Any airstrikes in Syria worry me. Not cause I don't think our military can handle it... but because I feel our commander in chief isn't competent enough to deal with the fallout from pissing them off.
