While the evil empire that was the Soviet Union may have been sent straight to the pits of hell, the philosophies that dominated behind the Iron Curtain are alive and well, especially in the West.

-The soviet union was an Atheist state, and Atheism is currently the fastest growing viewpoint of spirituality in Western countries.

-The soviet union was centrally planned economically, and young people today want more government involvement in their economic lives than ever before. Daycare, healthcare, housing, diapers, tampons, food. Type in "high cost of item x" on Google, and you'll find and article in the Atlantic or Huffpost about how we need that item to be nationalized. Rolling stone recently had an article about how we need the government to give everybody a job.

-The Soviet Union spied on its citizens, and had a police force which had no limits on its practices. The Western World resembles that currently.

-The soviet family was not nearly as valued as the collective. Today, in America and the West, there are more single people than married people, (first time in America, in fact), and the concept of "family values" is laughed off the stage.

-The word profit now has a negative connotation, which is straight out of Marxist teachings.

-The 300 year old union of Scotland and England is now threatened because Scotland doesn't think England is socialist enough.

If the west won the cold war and the battle of ideas, then victory was short lived, because the philosophic ghosts of Marxism and Statism are making a swift comeback, and they are doing so by exploiting peoples emotions.

I guess Rudyard Kipling was right:

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

This is a world wide trend...access to more information, ideas and customs. People are no longer growing up isolated...except in many muslim countries where you see religion thriving and that access restricted.

Gov't wants more power, people want more stuff. People are willing to trade votes for what they want. These are universal truths. Also, Inflation is at historically low levels. What does the US political enviroment and inflation levels have to do with Russia?

You're assuming that this hasn't been taking place all along. The only thing that's changed is your ability to access informaiton and the methods.

See the religoious issue, times and beleifs are changing. Let's try and pinpoint just ONE thing that might not be the USSR leading to this...Women in the workplace. How much has changed in that aspect since the cold war? Could that effect...nah frick it russians.

Says who?

Again, the Russians? Scotland has been dominated by the Labour party for years...Texas isn't liberal enough for California...so again...HOW THE frick DOES THIS INVOLVE THE RUSSIANS.

Are you on drugs? What kind? Can I have some?

I should have stopped reading right there.

Less than ten percent of Europe calls themselves Christian. The trend is not new at all. The abuses within the church, not wanting to offend Muslims, higher level of educated people. All lead to less

Just a guess, but I'd posit pole smokers and fatherless homes are probably not the optimal situation for producing successful tax payers. Just my $0.02.

Oh, I know you're going to respond with the two gay guys in NJ who've supported an orphanage, but that type of anecdotal evidence is useless when you realize we're abandoning the habits and morals that got us here.

Atheism isn't growing because of a free exchange of ideas. Atheism is growing because it appeals to the "have it your way" generations which currently are proliferating.

No worries. Rocky IV will just need to be re-released in theaters. Problem solved.

Obamacare. Health care should be free. In fact, everything should be free.

No, Atheism is growing because more people aren't simple accepting what their parents taught them. They are finding it easier to see and experience other world views more easily than previous generations.
