We don't need another corner. We need to move back to the 3 safety system from last season that shut down the eagles

Has Rafael Bush played much these two games? The fresh legs would help.

Barely. Once Kennan went down with the concussion, our secondary was practically defenseless and Foles was practically raping the scrub corners we had back there and took the lead. I believe we would've lost had Philly gotten the ball back.

some guy started a thread asking why don't the Saints ever draft LSU players even though there are more players from LSU in the NFL than any other school, and that this was why they weren't winning

IIRC he also complained that the Saints have more Tulane players than LSU players

Like I've said in other threads, some people need to stick to the Rantard board.

We completely shut them down with Keenan Lewis and without Vaccaro.

We'd obviously be in deep shite without Lewis, so I'm not sure what your point is. Did they even have 100 yards passing going into the 4th?

Just saying how I remember that game and this defense only being a player or two away from being a full blown catastrophe as opposed to most teams. We were indeed in deep shite without Lewis and thank god for Brees and Payton doing a masterful job of a four minute offense to make sure Philly never got the ball back.

I agree with the 3 safety system but what about a corner back by committe for the #2 spot? It's obvious P-Rob is not reliable and can't be trusted.

We were down to our 4th and 5th corners. We had already lost Kenny Vaccaro to injury too. So we were playing our 4th, 5th, and 6th options in nickel

Edit: Just looked it up. Keenan Lewis got "injured" late 3rd quarter. At that point, the Saints had given up 144 yards and just 7 points on a short field.

I think we could be fine with what we have. My biggest concern is scheme right now. It doesn't really matter who is playing CB if they play 6-10 yards back and give everyone free releases. If you are a CB on the Saint's roster, your job right now is to stand back and then chase the WR around.

The three safety system doesn't work if your CBs aren't playing tight to the WRs. They have to knock them at the line so the safeties have time to pick them up. On numerous receptions, you can see Lewis and P Rob barely touch the WRs off the line. I don't know if that's what they were told to do or not but it won't work.

Anyone that could come in and shut down the right side of the field, no. But I'd at least like to see us work someone out. Derek Cox, the CB who visited us before Keenan Lewis, is a FA, although he's been cut by two teams this year. Hard to say he isn't at least worth a workout. Same thing for Dimitri Patterson, although if he pissed off Rex enough to get cut, I'm sure Rob isn't touching him. The thing about Robinson is he's one the the most athletic players on the team, he just plays with zero confidence/technique.

And of course Champ is still out there...

Yeah I doubt Champ wants anything to do with us at this point.

It wasn't a true 3 safety system.

We had Kenny playing the slot as the #3 corner a good bit of the time.

It was just a way to get another good player on the field. It was one of the main reasons we drafter KV: versatility.

Its like playing Tyrann Mathieu only at safety. He needs to be all over the field and near the LOS.

Lewis, White, Vaccaro, Byrd, Bush

vs.

Lewis, Robinson, White, Byrd, Vaccaro

One is filled with holes, the other is weak at 1 spot and has shown to be dominant against a very good offense

this worked...and we matched Bush's offer from the Falcons...He had a great season...I like this option

quote:

Lewis, Robinson, White, Byrd, Vaccaro

this is not working...mostly because of Robinson

...both options will look a lot better if the DTs show up to play

Maybe, but there aren't any other teams beating down his door. He had a tryout with Detroit who hasn't signed him even after they had a couple of their DBs go down with injuries.
