Who are you most outraged by!?! ESPN shoves Rice down our throats, but the other 3 have gotten minimal air time outside of Peterson/Hardy being inactive for week 2.

Adrian Peterson
Greg Hardy
Ray McDonald
Ray Rice

If you were the commissioner, what would you punishments be?

I'd appoint Ray Lewis to a position and immediately suspend him without pay.

Create a council made of a former player appointed by the NFLPA, a NFL representative, and a neutral 3rd party with guidelines to follow

Indefinite suspensions while felony charges stand until the legal process is over

Ray Rice - 6 games

Peterson should do community service as a security guard at Chuck E Cheese. There's some bad arse kids at Chuck E. Cheese. Hell I'll cut him some chicken tree branches.

If I were the commissioner I wouldn't have dug myself a hole by forcing myself to arbitrarily hand out suspensions as if it were possible to fairly compare different offenses in a way that would also play well in the public media.

What he should have done is maintained a policy where the NFL only punished players if and after they pled or were found guilty of criminal offenses. Goddell's arrogance in believing he'd be able to consistently walk the lines between fairness, consistency, and pleasing the media and public now has him splashing around in the hot water he boiled.

I agree

Say the Ray Rice elevator incident happens this weekend and all the tape releases/criminal proceedings play out the same way. That means you've got three months of him playing even though you basically know exactly what happened in the elevator based on the 1st tape. That wouldn't be good.

I think the outrage over the incident was greatly magnified because of a sense that a non violent drug offense (which offers no performance advantage and therefore is not a separate competitive issue) was being punished very heavily while Rice treated his SO like Tina Turner on her first honeymoon.

There was going to be outrage over a football beating his gf/wife - but what made it worse was the arbitrary and comparatively lower punishment doled out in that case versus another - or put another way the NFL got in trouble mostly because they didn't have a carefully thought out or systematic methodology.

And yet Josh Gordon is still suspended for 10 games, even though according to the new NFL drug policy he didnt fail a drug test. The priorities of the NFL are out of order.

I am only familiar with the Rice and Peterson cases. IMO, the NFL should not take any substantial action against a player until after all legal proceeding and findings.

If an individual team decides to implement a punishment prior to the findings that is up to them. The Vikings suspended AP for a game after his arrest, not the result of his trial. IF, AP is found guilty the Vikings will have another decision to make or the NFL might handout the punishment.

In the Ray Rice case the DA let Rice plead to a lessor charge and basically got a slap on the wrist because he was a first time offender. The NFL based the suspension on that legal decision. However, the public outcry after the 2 game suspension was announced backfired on the NFL. Later, after the public saw the video, the Ravens cut Rice and the NFL suspended him indefinitely. Rice was actually punished twice for the same event.

Greg Hardy- This guy was CONVICTED in July for what he did. He beat up his girlfriend, chocked her, than threw her on a pile of guns saying he was going to kill her. WTF..... How has the NFL not suspended him is blowing my mind. Yes he is appealing but he was already convicted

Ray McDonald- It's only a matter of time. After the 911 call came out of a bystander describing him dragging the woman out by her hair he should also be suspended

Ray Rice- POS, he's getting what he deserves. But Hardy and McDonald should get no less if not more.

Adrian Peterson- He made a poor decision and should be suspended two games. I list him last because in all honesty a switch can be deceiving and the difference between him and the other 3 was intent. I do not believe he intended to do such harm. Very Poor judgment and he needs help but I doubt he meant true harm. A switch can be swung very lightly and cause whelps and if a broken part catches skin it may cause a little blood that is why I said a switch can be deceiving.

Da fuq?... What.....

How do you come to this conclusion? Similar to Vick........ He did what a lot consider to be routine discipline. Whether is it old school or you believe it to be right or not does not deserve a lifetime ban. Parents use switches everyday. I don't agree with it but to give a guy a lifetime ban when you would only give Greg Hardy a year for what he did is well..... stupid and ridiculous. So hardy is one step away from killing someone and gets 1 year, McDonald beats up his girlfriend and drags her around by her hair gets 8 games, Rice cold-cocks his old lady... 1 year, and AP disciplines his kid in a controversial manner and gets lifetime ban. GTFO with that

The child was 4 years old and was struck countless times leaving bleeding wounds. On top of that he struck (intentionally or unintentionally) his genitals. That is not controversial discipline...its child abuse damnit.

Nothing for any of the players, I'd allow the teams to make those determinations.

And wherever Goodell was, even if he was working for another company, I'd fire him.
