A question about the ISIS beheadings

Having watched bits of the news and seen screen shots of the lead-up to the beheadings, a friend asks this question: How are the victims so calm?
I watched the Daniel Pearl video when that went down, and it kind of scarred me for life, so I don't go near that type of thing now.
So I ask, is she right? Do the victims seem calm before it's about to happen? Is there an indication that they know what is about to happen?
If so, how are they so calm? I would be a mess.

most likely they are exhausted, have no clue wtf is happening, and potentially drugged.

i've wondered this too. they probably have reached a point where they know that dying is their only escape.
i imagine they also are told something alont these lines. "we are going to kill you. it can either be relatively quick or very slow and painful."
either way, i can't imagine being in their shoes.

All of the above are potential answers, also there could have been numerous trial runs to desensitize them.

I would hope I could go out with a fight like maybe start head butting these guys. But, the reality is that they're are mentally incapable of resisting at that point.

I don't get why they all capitulate and blame America and Britain - what do they have to lose at that point? I guess it's easy to act tough and show bravado from the comfort of my home but I feel like I'd be kicking and screaming and saying bad things about what their prophet enjoyed doing with children.

They may also go through many 'rehearsals' so they never know when the true moment will come, if ever.

Great question. One possibility is they have been tortured and mistreated for so long they have given up. They probably freaked out when captured, but at this point they made peace with what was about to occur for many days (if not weeks). I can only imagine what must be going through their minds as they wait for the knife - maybe they thought it would be a quicker death if they just went along the best they could with the death. Sedation drugs to chill them out may have been administered as well.

It really is awful. Imagine how bad it will be if/when they behead a female.
And I still can't believe that no Arab nations are leading an aggressive charge to catch these monsters. It makes me think less of their entire culture (which believe me... is a very difficult thing to achieve).
