My kids, all under 10, have watched every episode this season (not live). They haven't been really scared by anything. I was more disturbed early on by listen than they were.
I made a huge mistake and let my 8 year old watch the first episode of this season. He had trouble sleeping for a month. He kept having dreams of killer robots with a lit candle for brains.

It's funny how unpredictably kids react to things. They are often completely unphased by things adults find scary or creepy, but scared by things we might not expect.
For example, I thought The God complex would be scary for them, considering it is a hotel of people's worst fears. The dolls and the clown were particularly creepy to me. But when someone saw a clown sitting on a bed my kids all were incredulous: why in the world would anybody's greatest fear be a clown?
I've found that watching scarier episodes of Dr. Who is better receive early in the day rather than at night before bedtime.

more good reviews coming in:
Radio Times
Steven Moffat presents one of his boldest, most exhilarating and peculiarly touching episodes. An excellent, deeply satisfying season finale.
Den of Geek
There's a lot to dissect in Death In Heaven, and considering how little we can say here, we almost abandoned the plan to do a spoiler-free reaction this time. But given the fears that many have, if you've enjoyed Doctor Who series 8, then it ends very much with its head held high.
Wales Online
Dark, brooding and brilliant, it's in my all time favourite top 10 Doctor Who episodes. It's got everything you ever wanted for an ending, and so much more.
Warped Factor
You might think you already have some kind of grasp where it's going...chances are you don't. It's a very serious story, but there are more lighter moments than in Dark Water, and they blend together very well.
There Goes The Day
In many ways this is Moffat at his most cruel: manic-plotting, bursting beloved balloons, yanking fandom-forged chains, ignoring what doesn't suit him and getting you out from behind the sofa and yelling at the screen...
Spoiler TV
Petty quibbles aside though, I still feel this is one of the best finales the show has had, it’s an emotional story that’s explored loyalty, love, betrayal, trust, death and hope over the course of both episodes.
Outpost Skaro
For once, too, we don’t have a temporal anomaly to fall back on when it comes to dénouements so we get a straightforward action adventure, albeit one with a bit of brains behind it.
Doctor Who TV
If you thought last week’s episode was dark, it was just the appetiser. This might prove another slightly controversial episode for its further exploration of grim themes, with plenty of unsettling moments and overall bleak tone. There’s the odd bit of humour, but for a good 75% of the episode it’s about as far away from family friendly drama as Doctor Who is likely to get.
Watch this space for more reviews as we get closer to the finale on Saturday at 8pm.

I just rewatched part 1 with my kids and loved it even more. It's very well put together. Oh and about halfway through my 8 year old said "I think all of those tanks have cybermen in them."
And I'll be pausing the game to watch Who as always. I've got my priorities.

SPOILERS
I...didn't like it.
Hopefully that changes on rewatch.
Felt rushed.
There was a really good 25~ minutes (breaking the plane until after Clara soniced Cyber-Dan)
99% of the episode was telegraphed. Poorly.
Moffat Whedoned Osgood
I did really, really, really like the part with Capaldi pissed about Gallifrey at the end.
WTF title sequence
Did Missy teleport at the end?
Cyber-Brigadier was kind of dumb.
Well-intentioned, but dumb. The Doctor should have rescued her the way he saved River in Season 6. Have Cyber-Brigadier show up in another way. And explain why he (a)wasn't cyber-controlled and (b) didn't listen to Cyber-Dan
They never explained the end of last episode with Danny and the kid.
Really good acting let down by the story.
The restaurant scene kind of pissed me off. If that's really how Clara leaves the series, I'm going to heckle Moffat next time he's filming in Cardiff. Nick Frost may save that...
Once again, I hope a rewatch changes my mind.

First thoughts:
Spoilers
Excellent excellent episode. Easily the best finale of the new series, delivering on the great setup.
Rushed?? The scene in the cemetery lasted for a very long time, slowly lingering on the pain. It was very effective. Danny's death and Clara's exit were very well handled and heartbreaking. The doctor and Clara lying to one another, making each other think they were happy, was tough to watch. The doctor banging the tardis console was a scene that will go down as one of the great doctor who scenes.
Loved the brigadier cameo.
What was different about the title??

The first 30 minutes and the point between Danny being soniced and the death(?) of Missy.

Agreed. There was a 25 minute stretch that was great.

I disagree here. The relationship just ended on two lies (Danny's alive and Gallifrey's been found). With all the shite she's been through, Clara deserved better. It also contradicted her speech to Cyber-Dan before she realised he was Danny "The only person I would never lie to".

Agreed.

Jenna's name was first and it was her eyes instead of Capaldi's.

Well that was clearly a lie. She has often lied to both Danny and the doctor. I thought it was fitting that well-intentioned lies separate them in the end. If this is the end, of course.
I loved the pacing and direction. The direction in particular, was stellar. The creepy camera work in the cemetery early when Clara was wondering around was very good. There were lots of good shots in both parts. I hope they bring her back to direct more.

eyes
Didn't notice a difference, don't know what either set of eyes look like off hand. Funny they would do that though. Clara really did become doctor-like over her arc.
Oh and missy landing like Mary poppins had me

I cracked up at "Hey micki"
Anywho...
I hope that isn't Clara's exit from the show...
It would make her ending even more heartbreaking than Donna's.

I doubt that was the end for her. I bet she is in the Christmas special with a happier end.

seems entirely too likely..
=------
I guessed I blinked when they showed Galifrey,, what happened? I assumed it was Trenzilore ie a graveyard planet,, but again, I blinked.
note: the "salute" to the Colonel was kinda kewl..

There was nothing there. The Master seems to have lied, though I'm sure it'll be there but just out of phase or something.
Posted on 11/9/14 at 3:27 pm to Athanatos
I wasn't really that impressed with it. If that was Clara's ending, then Moffat screwed the pooch this season.
Missy is definitely alive.

The Doctor was lying to Clara and Clara was lying to The Doctor.

Is it better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?
Substitute "seen/saved other worlds and have no memory of it" for the first part.
I'd take that over loved and lost any day.

I noticed on kill the moon the doctor was talking to Clara and others about how fragile humans are. He said something like one can just be hit by a car and it's all over.
