Iran's Supreme Leader has approved co-operation with the US as part of the fight against Islamic State (IS) in Iraq, sources have told BBC Persian.

Ayatollah Khamenei has authorised his top commander to co-ordinate military operations with the US, Iraqi and Kurdish forces, sources in Tehran say.

Iran has traditionally opposed US involvement in Iraq, an Iranian ally.

OBTW, we might also need them in our Cold War with Putin.

I'm under no illusions this will lead to any lasting alliance. They needs us because they're scared, once we're done cleaning up their backyard they'll hate us again.

He was replaced by a more moderate leader in a free election.

The Ayatollah still pulls the real strings, but Ahmadinejad was never the problem.

Man, if only everyone could have seen this coming when we invaded Iraq, I mean who could have predicted removing Iran's biggest nemesis and replacing it's government with one more in line with Iraq's Shiite majority would lead to a closer relationship between the two largest Shiite countries in the region.
