The new NC selection process is very flawed.

The new selection process has inherent conflicts of interest, as it concerns two members of the selection committee (Pat Haden and Oliver Luck). Despite the so-called recusal requirement, who thought putting active ADs on the selection committee was a good idea anyway? What happened to avoiding the appearance of impropriety? Is it really recusal, from both the discussion and the voting, or is it only absention from the voting? It should be the former, not the latter.

Haden and Luck have conflicts of interest, not
only to their respective schools, but also to their respective conferences. If one or both of them don't recognize this and act accordingly, is there a process to compel recusal?

Keeping the BCS's selection process, but having a 4-team playoff system to determine the NC, would be much, much better.

Did you forget that the Chair of the committee is Jeff Long...the current AD at Arkansas?

I still don't know what Condi brings to the table - can't wait for that Stanford Bama matchup with both at 5 and 6 in most polls

anyone who watched the USC/Stanford game knows that Haden should immediately be removed from the selection committee

Are you only now realizing that this committee is a bad idea?

felt the same way until I heard an interview with her, think it was with Dan Patrick maybe?

Anyway, after hearing her talk about it, I think she is great for the committee. She knows her stuff, no doubt about it.

Plus, it doesn't hurt that her dad is a huge LSU fan

The P5 conferences. So, you can only blame ourselves.

Arkansas would have to be relevant for that to matter.

Then you have teams like BYU getting in this year. No thank you.

Humans can recognize that BYU doesn't belong even if they run the table.

It's a joke. I agree. And hearing people excuse Haden's actions is a joke too. ADs should be no where near this process and seriously damages the appearance of impartiality. We have appointed czars of college football with allegiances and the ability to form alliances. Don't think it will happen? It happens everyday in government.

Tweak the BCS formula if necessary and take the top 4. Everyone agrees it got the top 2 right MOST years.

The basketball selection committee has made some WTF decisions on which teams get in before, but it's mostly for the last few at-large spots, who don't get far most of the time. A WTF decision by this committee would seriously affect the champion. That said, I'll wait for them to mess up before really complaining. Then I can say "The committee is stupid. Why didn't they let X team in?" Right now, all I can do is speculate. Maybe they'll actually get it right.

But they said the AD's will recuse themselves when the committee is discussing their schools.

Humans made up 2/3 of the BCS. But enough people to dilute bias. One or two people on a committee can swing an enormous amount of power.

I think no matter what the setup is, people are going to find a reason to complain. We can find a flaw with any playoff seeding methodology.

The objective in my mind should still be about finding the two best teams in the nation. I think with having 4 teams in the playoff you're assured of getting the top 2 teams in the country in the mix. I can't think of any instance where I thought the #5 team should be playing for the NC.
