Not every or all _______ are bad

I was on Facebook earlier and someone posted a picture of the twin towers and a comment were made about Muslims. Invariably, someone else came in and said," not all Muslims are bad."
What is the point of such statements?
Well of course not every member of most any group are all bad. But, what solace is it to the families of victims killed on 9-11 that all Muslims aren't bad? Or what comfort does the child victim who is molested by an adult take in the fact that not all adults are abusers? You could extrapolate this to almost any situation and it would still apply.
All this excuse does is provide cover for those in said groups guilty of committing the atrocities to be sheltered.
What's worse, targeting members of groups who knowingly and regularly commit atrocities, or give blanket absolution to them because we are too afraid to offend some?

We can't say all Muslims are bad but we CAN say that each individual Muslim is bad.

the implication is that if you are critical, you automatically think the whole of that group is bad

I'd rather think in absolutes. It's simpler.

I don't think all Muslims are bad. Only the Muslims who:
- murder, steal, or rape
- commit jihad
- blow up buildings
- kill civilians
- declare war on the US
- declare war on our allies
- hate Jews
- don't recognize Israel
- want to destroy Israel
- oppress women
- oppress other religions
- support a caliphate
- don't believe in religious freedom
- don't believe in separation of church and state
- invoke Allah for violence
- have any belief that supports any of the above, even if they personally don't do it themselves
