Why won't the NFL stagger its starting times?

The NFL has been stuck in the 12 o'clock - 3 o'clock (central time) time starts forever.
College football is set up nicely where you can easily catch another ending to a game, while another one is at halftime, for example.
I understand the networks have their contracts, but to be honest, more would watch the ending to an exciting game than bother watching at halftime of their "local" team.

Good point I hadn't thought of before.

Because they only have two networks.

Overall vastly divergent marketing perspectives
The NFL is going after certain specific demographics mostly in connection to the major cities. They know who they are and what they want, and you can't blame them. It's the most popular sport in America.
College football is just sprawled and scrambling all over every inch of the country trying to grab anyone they possibly can, with a smaller and more spread out core demographic

This.
It would be a TV nightmare trying to figure out which games fit into what slots for what markets. You would probably miss a lot more of the marquee matchups. Not worth it. Current model is fine other than the lack of availability for Sunday Ticket in some markets. Needs to be available for all providers.

Why don't they split the games evenly between 12 and 3? Why are there always like 10 noon games?

Saturdays are more flexible in terms of people's schedules. Sundays, not so much.

Today it's due to the US Open. Other times it's because they want to "showcase" certain teams, like the bullshite Cowboys on their quest to 8-8.

Ok, so you have two networks. You still can stagger the starts. The network that has one game for the week could start their game at 1:30.
the other two game network could still get their exclusive coverage from 12-1:30, and about 4:30 - 6:00.

The NFL is not interested in making it more flexible.
