WATCHESPN picture quality on Roku and Chromecast

I have a Roku and Chromecast on same TV with WATCHESPN app. Both have 1080p as signal in corner.
The Chromecast picture is better. The Roku picture is ok but doesn't look like 1080p or as good as the Chromecast.
Can anyone explain why?

My Roku 1 quality started sucking bad at half. Haven't compared it's best moments w Chromecast or anything else though. Will. Does the faster roku 3 processor make for better picture q?
