i can not understand how the NCAA can justify suspending a player for making "more money than allowed". for one, is a player has a child, such as elliott does, how can they expect the father not to want to make money doing something legal, and put food on his families plate. this gives even more of a reason to begin paying players.

im all for suspending players for improper benefits, money being handed to them, but i dont see the problem with actually working a good paying job, and getting paid.

can someone with knowledge please help me understand this

Maybe he was in his bed while being on the clock?

I am not familiar with the details. Are you saying they suspended him because he earned too much working a summer job?

Usually in these situations they are getting paid for a job they aren't actually working at

Like Clarett's lawn mowing business where he only worked like 5 hrs a week and made bank.

However in this case, Porter put in the time, but LSU compliance thought he was making too much money doing that particular job.

yes, he made more than what is approved by compliance.
not allowed to have any more than a part time job during summer and has to be approved job by compliance department. but my question, is how can they hold back someone hwo has EARNED their degree already to making just a part time pay. i dont get it. the system is flawed

the average joe can get their degree and begin making money off of that degree earned the next day. yet if you play football, you cant use your degree to provide for your family until a year after,

i dont get it :banghead:

It's all bullshite. Let the top 1% rape everyone and put the foot on the throats of the little man. I saw an interview with the CEO of Google...that was scary.

You're saying the rate of pay was too much, right? OP is looking at it like he was paid $15/hour for a $15/hour job, and he just accumulated too much money. I couldn't find details outside of that one Advocate article.

As long as the university doesn't pay them, I don't care who pays them for what. Let them cash in on their name and status.

But what if it had nothing to do with that. He's a center for Christ sake. Isn't it possible that MAYBE someone just paid the man $1,500/2k to pressure wash a house or something? I mean come on.

I've had LUCKY jobs before and no one gives a shite about me.

I wasn't speaking to his particular case. I was just giving my opinion on the overall issue.

thats not what happened though. i know what he did and where he worked at, and while yes made good money, it is what the job pays.
not saying though...

im just confused as to why it was a problem. specifically if you have a degree.

Its one of those things that LSU compliance will hammer down, but other schools won't blink twice at.

If you wanna play in the NCAA you have play by their rules no matter how flawed. This place would be going nuts if Porter was declared Inegligable later on. He may miss some blow out games (minus Wisconsin) but with the NCAA better to be safe than sorry.

could have been something like that. We don't know the details. They have to have limits on that sort of thing otherwise you will just have a bidding war for recruits by the alumni for players. Probably goes on a lot more than what we know.

And now they are preventing him from playing his sr year, and thus hindering his value for the nfl draft. Hmm makes sense.

It doesn't make sense because the rich bastards that make these rules have no idea what it means to struggle, or worry about how they're going to support their family. If they did struggle at some point to get by, they obviously forgot what it's like. The NCAA is a joke!
