There seems to be no way Stills will play in this one.
I wonder if it's replacement by committee and Morgan/Cooks/Meachem/Toon will each see increased snaps?
Or will Morgan be pretty much a straight up replacement for Stills?

I saw a quote earlier from Stills saying that if it was up to him, that he would play. I guess it's encouraging that he feels well enough to play, but I'm glad the team is taking to time to let him heal.

A little surprised he's listed as questionable. Must mean the leg responded well enough. Payton often lets a guy practice one day, holds him out the next day to see how it responds, and then goes from there.
So even if he doesn't suit up this game he's looking likely to be back week 2, week 3 at the latest.

I'd rather him take his time and heal up than have a nagging injury all season.

im not oppose to sitting him the first 5-8 weeks if need be. Stills is not needed for this team to make the playoffs...we need him for the second season and Super Sunday.

quote:Why does everyone think the injury is THAT bad? He tried to come back after a week and a half to two weeks the first two times and he's had about 2 weeks to heal up this time. At most he'll miss the first two games, not the first 1-2 months.
5-8 weeks

Hasn't he re injured it twice now?
Every time I think about injuries like this they tend to linger...I immediately think of a long line of players that never hit 100% because they rushed back or coaches allowed them back too soon.
We can survive the early part without him. Its the second half of the schedule that gets tough.

Agreed. Stallworth and Horn both missed more than double the original time due to not resting groins and hammy's properly.
Plus (God forbid) another WR gets dinged up in the first 3 weeks... It would be good to have Stills coming back 100% to make up for any upcoming injury.

Yes he "reinjured" it twice because he came back just a little bit too soon, but the second time he wasn't noticeably limping like it was bad.
And if it's not bad he doesn't need 1-2 months to let it heal. He's had about 2 weeks and might get another 1-2 weeks and it should be fine by then. He said he feels good enough to play this week. That should tell you this is something that will not linger all year.
He doesn't need to miss half the season to be safe. Another week or two is playing it safe.

Fair enough. I just have high expectations for this team and Stills is a major player in what we want to accomplish, we will need him for Seattle(they are on our playoff sched), GB, 49ers etc.

Heck, let him rest until we go to Dallas.

Hopefully not, but he did say yesterday that he expects to be dealing with it for the majority of the season. I expect we will see him back week 2, week 4 at the very latest.

"I definitely think it's something that, after injuring it three times, that I'll have to deal with for the majority of the season," he said. "But I'm just doing everything I can to strengthen it and make sure it doesn't become an issue for the whole year."

On him being important, I agree and that's why we shouldn't overdo it with holding him out. Let him heal but we still need him to help us win games.
On the injury, when he says dealing with it I assume he's talking about making sure he doesn't reaggravate it so he'll have to make sure he doesn't overdo it for a while. It may bother him a bit but if it was still majority damaged he wouldn't be able to go.
I liken it to my achilles where I can still play sports but it's a little sore after. If I push too hard though I'm sure I can do serious damage. So I have to manage it but it isn't bad enough to stop me from playing.
No if he does reinjure it again and it's a more serious reinjure (unlike what it appeared to be in the preseason game where it looked like only a minor reinjury), he could be done for the year.

I wonder why Meachem is not listed on the depth chart on the Saint's Website? Haven't they had plenty of time to update the depth chart on the Website? With Still's being questionable for Sunday's game, i decided to look on the Saint's Website to see who we had as back-ups, and Meachem is no where on that list and whew, it had me worried for a moment, until i looked at the Roster and saw his name listed. Thought they had released him again or something. Geez! They need to get that depth chart updated!

As someone who has checked the depth chart on the official site for years, trust me when I say you shouldn't take it as gospel. It goes long periods without being updated and it is more of a PR depth chart than a coaches depth chart. The vets are often listed higher up even if they get less playing time (exceptions often being the young guys they feel are more marketable).
