With the bridge inspections, which is the best alternate route if I didn't want to worry about getting caught up in that mess? How much longer does it make the trip?

They are only closing one lane and it is only for a short time. Check out the exact times and plan accordingly. Those alternate routes look long.

OP can't use Google maps on his own, you think he will plan accordingly...

Going TO Lafayette from BR should only be a problem today (Friday). I'd advise taking US 190. Morgan City route will take a couple of hours at best. Westbound is not scheduled for inspection closures again until mid next week.

Eastbound is gonna be hell this weekend. If you must travel eastbound between Lafayette and BR, I suggest bringing a tent and food and water.

Going to Houston next Friday morning. Should I just plan on going 190?

Study this and come back and you tell us:

HENDERSON, La. - DOTD announced today that beginning Tuesday, September 2, Interstate 10 will have alternating lane closures on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, between milepost 117 and milepost 127 (Whiskey Bay), for routine bridge inspections.

Inspections are estimated to take place over a two week period as follows:

• September 2 – Interstate 10 eastbound – 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• September 3 – Interstate 10 westbound – 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• September 4 – Interstate 10 westbound – 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• September 6 – Interstate 10 westbound – 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• September 7 – Interstate 10 eastbound – 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• September 8 – Interstate 10 eastbound – 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• September 9 – Interstate 10 eastbound – 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• September 10 – Interstate 10 westbound – 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The proposed inspection schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions and traffic queues.

Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route, due to the possibility of traffic delays.

DOTD encourages motorists to observe message boards in place and drive with caution through the area. The Department appreciates your patience and reminds you to be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

So if I'm heading into BR today after work is it gonna be worse than the normal Friday clusterfrick?

You realize it is the home opener for LSU this weekend, right? And it's against an in-state school, which will increase the number of people coming into BR, right?
