Discontinuing 7% Annual Points Dividend

After 12/31/2015, you will no longer earn the 7% Annual Points Dividend. You will be awarded your final 7% points dividend in early 2016. You can still continue to enjoy the many other ways to be awarded rewards such as 2X points on travel and dining and 1 point on all other purchases

This was one of the biggest selling points of the card. Now that they are discontinuing it, what's the point in having it?

I think I'll be in need of another credit card in the near future.

To transfer your points to airline partners to get the best redemption value.

Of course, if you have another chase card that does that/or used up your points and don't want UR any more, go ahead and downgrade it

Only a few Chase cards can have points transferred to them from other Chase cards and still have the airline points transfer and the 20% bonus in the portal. It's still one of their more valuable cards. IMO.

Discontinuing 7% Annual Points Dividend

I posted this in the big thread a few weeks ago when I got the email.

However, I thought it ended this year, not next year

Either way, I will be downgrading the guard. No reason to pay the annual fee for just 2xs when I can get similar on other cards with no fee

If you had the card for the dividend I hope for your sake you were spending a shite load on dining out. To the tune of about $9,000 a year give or take.

I got it because of the 55k bonus points that I got for signing up.

Just saying if they do take away the 7% dividend, there really is absolutely no reason for me to keep it once my year comes up.

We place damn near all our living expenses on it. We probably spending over $30,000 on it. I also place all my travel expenses on it when I travel for work. So, yeah we spend quit a bit.

I was speaking more so for the dining bonus plus the dividend for justification of the fee, not every day spending.

In any event, I downgraded this card earlier this summer and my fiancee's this week. I have a business card to get my transfer through.

That is really the one thing to keep in mind at this juncture, your point balance/need to transfer.

Plenty more of other signup bonuses and point structures to abuse out there.

Word, especially with my above statement/if you don't feel like collecting UR any more.

Ya everything is the same, they just send you plastic cards to replace those bad arse metal ones. That's it

If you're into travel rewards and not cash back then you have a few from Amex like Amex Gold or their new Amex Everyday Preferred which may be up your alley.

There's also Barclay's Arrival Plus for "Travel Cash back"

Amex Starwood as well.

These are good keepers for every day spend cards. Plenty of earn and burn cards out there as well.

I'll be downgrading the CSP at 1 year as well but not because of the loss of dividend but because I only need to pay for 1 chase card that had the ability to transfer and that's the ink card.

Interestingly (or not) when you have fraud on the account you have to mail the cards back to them because they are quite difficult to destroy on your own. I think there is a thread on FT where a guy put one through a shredder for fun

You don't have to mail them but the option is given. I just burned the numbers and name off mine when I had a fraud alert.

The metal cards are pretty nice. The Marriott one is metal too.

Well of course you don't HAVE to. I'm sure they don't employ a gestapo

Very true.

I just thought it was odd when I opened the new card package and they had an envelope to send the old one back. Obviously never seen that before.

If you expect to put 75,000 points on a card, which card would you get? 100,000. What if you already had Southwest companion status, so air miles not too helpful unless going international?
