I felt like we needed a thread to have a good discussion on the most prolific, unique, and talented musicians of the past century

As you can see from links I'm about to post, I'm partial to his mid 70's stuff, but I'm a fan of pretty much all of it.

I'll start off with a few links of some of my favorite studio material of his. Please feel free to contribute and share. If anyone knows some good live stuff on youtube, please post it for me.

Po-Jama People

Uncle Remus (my favorite Zappa song)

Wonderful Wino

Dinah-Moe Humm

Black Napkins (live)

Son of Mr. Green Genes

ah yeah

Zappa is responsible for two of my favorite songs of all time:

Camarillo Brillo - A beauty. I absolutely love the lyrics. The arrangement is so catchy. When that brass section sweeps in during the last verse....

Willie the Pimp - one of the gnarliest studio jams ever. frick yeah

He's simply the best. Been a fan for over 20 years. Highly recommend going to see Dweezil next time he comes around.

He's my favorite musician.

Here's a clip of a live show from his creepy, trippy movie Baby Snakes: A movie about people who do stuff that isn't normal.

Punky's Whips

The guitar solo at the end really does it for me.

Here's the warning label he made to put on his albums in protest of censorship and parental advisory labels.

Cosmik Debris (live)

A good link right there, but I just I can't remember what song it was, but I saw a link a year or so ago of a live version of some song that was the most ridculous guitar I've maybe ever heard by anyone

I wish I could remember the song/show/link, it was amazing

I've seen Zappa Plays Zappa

it was pretty awesome

My dad saw Zappa a couple of times, he's a big fan, and has told some good stories

Was it all an instrumental? What kind of tempo?

I just can't remember...

It was a song with lyrics, I just can't remember which one. Probably mid 70's, good video quality, I think he had his shirt off...I dunno

I'll find it eventually and blow some minds

If he had his shirt off then it might have come from that movie I posted a clip from. Try maybe Muffin Man or Camarillo Brillo. The songs run together in that version and it's a much more electric version of Camrillo Brillo.

Camarillo Brillo/Muffin Man

The Baby Snakes movie is worth checking out in my opinion. It's bits of Zappa's Halloween shows mixed together with pretty demented claymation. It's damn long though. About three and a half hours if I remember correctly.

Uncle Remus (my favorite Zappa song)

Cool little song, that one. Not many would put it in their top 10.

I really like In France, cracks me up every time I hear it.

Zoot Allures is an interesting song written in quartal harmony.

The Illinois Enema Bandit is another one that I find funny.

Inca Roads
Peaches en Regalia (Dixie Dregs did a legit cover with Dweezil on guitar)
Occam's Razor
Pretty much all of Overnite Sensation
Muffin Man
City of Tiny Lights
Dumb All Over

Uncle Remus and Zombie Woof are a couple of my favorites.

I used to have a CD of a symphonic take of Zappa songs. It was titled Strictly Genteel. I still have the case, but the disc is nowhere to be found. It really illustrates his ability to compose when you take away some of the silliness.

Looks like I'm about to go into a Zappa phase for a while. It will be in the car. My wife hates him.
