What if ISIL captured someone famous and threatened to kill them?

What if ISIL captured an American celebrity? I know the likelihood is pretty small, but some of these celebrities travel to vulnerable places to do aid work or perform. For example, if ISIL captured someone beloved like Paul Simon, how would you react? Would our government react any differently if ISIL threatened to kill him/her?
