The DL is, but it doesn't apply to the LB core.

Welter Sr.
Louis Jr.
Jones Jr.
Alexander Jr.
Fiest Jr.

Somebody at linebacker other than Alexander has to start performing... the "they're young" excuse is played out.

I feel pretty confident that Beckwith will take over at Mike next season with Garret starting at Sam. Lamar and Deion will still be fighting for PT at Will.

Beckwith never really played LB in high school. He played run after the guy with the ball. Welter has been playing LB for muuuch longer.

And unless welter somehow figures out how to blackmail the NCAA to get another season of eligibility, I feel that Beckwith will take over mike NEXT season! If KB blows up and has a great season, he probably goes pro like Minter and CG will take over in the middle.

And he still can't play the position. He's just a guy who either gets dragged 5 yards everytime he makes a tackle or runs and jumps on top of the pile after someone else makes the tackle.

Disagree, we are horrible in the middle. When DJ Welter is the starting MLB on an SEC school you have problems at MLB. He was an undersized, not that fast prospect with one other offer from Northwestern. We should be filling that position with a dominating player that does not get dragged all over the field. While Melvin Jones may be a really good fit at FB, if he was recruited to be a MLB at 250lbs then why can't we have that kind of athlete at that position? Why does he have to be moved to FB just because he can play that position as well? If Beckwith is not able to play it because he hasn't figured out how to make the calls and read the offense, then why not give Jones that opportunity. Just saying.

He is 6'2" 227 (roster weight)

he is a little light. There is no OLBs really getting drafted under 230 in the first 4 rounds. It would benefit him to stay another year and bulk up/ finish his degree.

Here's why.

Duke Riley 6-1 225 jr
Ronnie Fiest 6-2 230 sr

Kendall Beckwith 6-3 245 sr
Clifton Garrett 6-2 230 jr

Donnie Alexander 6-2 225 jr

This is the 2016 roster for LB. By 2015 either Feist, Garret or Beckwith will have grasped the MLB position and we are only left with three OLB as it stands.

MLB should be fine with those two (not saying we don't need to add another) but three guys for two positions beckons the need for commits this year and next.
