Particularly in the first half of Saturday's game, it was blatantly obvious that the OL, TEs, and sometimes FBs were missing a ton of blocking assignments both on running and passing plays.

While this is a cause for concern, it definitely improved in the 2nd half, and hopefully that is the type of play we see for the season rather than the first half performance.

Do most think it was just miscommunication? I personally think Pocic likely was struggling making the right reads and communicating it to his teammates. While he is likely a more physically talented player than Porter, I wonder if he's just not there yet in the recognition and leadership side of things.

I think this experience will only help him get there though. Thoughts?

I know neighbors will get it done, I've seen it.

OL will too, I thought Fanaika did very well.

TEs aren't proven though, and its been a few years since we've had a good one, imo.

Dude, it's Tuesday...move on to the next game. The players and coaches have watched the film, highlighted mistakes, and have moved on. Our fans should do the same thing. The game last Saturday is history. Time to focus on SHSU.

Mostly what I saw was one of the linemen (usually Pocic) failing to get off his double team and get to the second level. This left a LB unblocked who invariably made the play it seemed.

We got out with a win...Everything is improvable from here on out. Grimes and Miles will use these next two weeks teaching/improving techniques to get where they need to be for SEC.

It's a message board centered around discussing the games. You might need to deal with it.

Some other issues after watching the replay.

Obviously the screens. We probably left 20 yards on the field there.

The pitches. Even the ones that we executed seemed a little shaky. I think Jennings sails them a little bit and it causes the running backs to hesitate.

The T.E.'s. Obviously this has been beat to death but they have to block better and they absolutely have to catch the ball when they finally get their number called.

Dline. - I honestly thought they played fairly decent for a large part of the game. Early on, especially on Melvin Gordon's big runs, I thought the linebackers were the real culprits.

Positives:

Trey Quinn - Gonna be a stud for us for the next several years. More than a position type receiver.

Return Game - LF is gonna break a few this year.

Secondary - Yea, the Wisconsin QB wasn't very good. This unit still played great. Always stride for stride with their man. Made several big plays.

You should be giving Wisconsin a lot of credit for the oline problems. They would shift right before the snap and make it difficult for the oline to adjust

I think the 2 tackles were really solid outside of a few plays. Fanaika also played well.

However I was really disappointed with the TEs in pass protection, and Pocic and Alexander struggled alot. Multiple times Pocic and Alexander let a guy in through the middle, and they NEVER get to the second level on run plays.

I hope they don't give up on screen plays. All of the HB screens were there if Jennings delivers a touch pass.

yet we carry about fifty on the roster. our high school TE evaluation and or our coaching at that position doesn't impress me.

Give credit to badger's defensive coaches and players. They did a great job for the most part. They didn't try to match our size and strength, just schemed us to death. Many total whiffs.

At least, and on three different occasions. All of them were going for big yardage had the throw been decent.

That was my thing. I think he failed to make the pre-snap reads and it cost the team. It's youth and understandable, and why I hope Porter is back for MSU, while Pocic gets good reps over the next two weeks.

Having a veteran center like Porter is key for success with a young and experienced QB. Hopefully Pocic starts picking it up with experience though.

I had serious issues with the left side of the line.

The second half was much improved but Collins really seemed to have difficulty staying with a block and preventing lateral shifting of his man across his body. I'm not sure why but he seemed to make first step with the wrong foot several times leaving him vulnerable to the speed of a smaller D lineman. Many plays Collins could be seen standing completely upright looking back at the running back being tackled. Alexander had similar issues but not at the same frequency. Pocic as mentioned before seemed to have difficulty either knowing he needed to slide off and pick up the LB or actually getting there to do so. His blocking a the LOS was good though. Neighbors seemed to have difficulty picking up the inside out protection off the tackle position on designed lateral runs and to a lesser degree passes.

The W D seemed to be well studied and were reacting VERY quickly to any runs not designed to go straight ahead. Although their foot speed may not have been great the fact that some plays the LB were moving downhill in the direction of the outside run prior to Harris ever handing the ball off gave them quite an advantage. They certainly seemed to know which way the ball was going at the time of the snap on multiple occasions.

Wisconsin used a high risk/high reward scheme against LSU. It worked well when LSU was lined up in formations with very predictable play calls, which was the case when LSU lined up with TE and FB. When LSU went to formations with less predictable play calls the risks stopped paying off.

Could LSU have adjusted faster? Possibly, but since it was the first game of the season I think they were content to wait until half time to make adjustments.

Gordon and Alexander missed numerous blocks. Alexander is incapable of handling athletic men; he is fat and plays slow and high.Get in shape dude.

I think this is on the money. They played MUCH differently than we are used to. LSU sees the 3-4 with Bama, but they have bigger, more physical LBs. Wisconsin used speed and confusion, and it worked perfectly when we were just trying overpower them. They did an solid job of filling gaps and maintaining their assignments. And their MLB was a tackling fool. He was everywhere up front.

The bottom line is, I'm sure the guys on the OL will learn from Sat. But thankfully, most of the SEC defences we will face won't match up the same way. They will be more of a physical strength vs strength matchup. Although, some may watch that game tape and add wrinkles based on the difficulty our guys had in reading all that pre-snap motion.

Wisconsin's scheme had a lot to do with the seeming ineptitude IMO. Cam changed his approach in the second half, running more from the one-back with three wide-outs. Some nice plays in the passing game spread the defense even more and the blocking became superb. Not a mystery. It was better execution with a change in scheme and play-calling that turned things around.
