Barber Shop tip question

For a Barber Shop cut, 10 mins with clippers and no wash/massage/etc, what is the correct tip on a $16 bill?
I realize people (and by that I mean women) tip outrageous amounts for hours long beauty shop treatments but this isn't that.

My barber charges $14. It takes about 10 minutes with a complimentary massage. I give him a $20 and say, "you can just give me back $3.

They charge $9.15 here on the intallation and I normally hand them a $20 and tell them to keep the $5. They always seem to light up and always tell me to make sure I come back. Part of me feels like I am over tipping if they are giving that sort of reaction, but oh well.

When it comes to tipping, if barber owns the shop, you don't tip, just like if a bartender is the owner of the bar, you don't tip.

This should be true. but its not. Depending on how old the shop is there could be little to know overhead. There are not really any direct costs involved. So essentially its all a tip. Ask for what you think its worth. Not 3 dollars less.

Funny you bring that up, I previously asked that question because I don't tip the owner. I got blasted by the OT for my stance on this.
I am asking the new question because he has now hired an employee.

I tip my guy at least 20%, I really like to take care of the people that I go to alot. Get free beer, hot towel, and massage with the haircut. Throw'em 30 bucks or so around Christmas time.

Not even sure why we tip anyway? They offer a service, they post a price for said service, and I pay that price. What is the tip for?

I would just give the $20.

Never seen a sign that indicated price is for said service. You always tip when a service is involved.
This even moreso since you have their full service time being spent only on you unlike being in a restaurant.
