quote:

That was President Vladimir Putin's message on Friday, the same day a British government source claimed that Russian troops had significantly ratcheted up their military incursion into Ukraine.

Moscow doesn't want or intend to wade into any "large-scale conflicts," Putin insisted at a youth forum, state-run Itar-Tass reported. A few breaths later, he made the point that Russia is "strengthening our nuclear deterrence forces and our armed forces," making them more efficient and modernized.

"I want to remind you that Russia is one of the most powerful nuclear nations," the President said. "This is a reality, not just words."

He later warned, "We must always be ready to repel any aggression against Russia and (potential enemies) should be aware ... it is better not to come against Russia as regards a possible armed conflict."

Apparently he's forgetting that we have nukes too and almost every other 1st world country as well.

Worthless and empty saber rattling from Putin.

Jeez. How long has it been since a supposed super power dangled the specter of nuclear might in a dick measuring contest? He's losing it. Would not be surprised to see him be taken out internally. Russia can't afford the severe isolation he's going to cause.

It's obvious that the Slavic mentality is one that does not bend toward appeasement, and isolation is actually the best way to go in this globalized age of chaos we're currently in.

Even if you're right and isolationism is the answer to Putin's and Russia's problems then why invade Ukraine? Why "remind" the world that Russia has a lot of nukes? I think you may need to reconsider what some people in the Russian government really want.

Why indeed?

I think Russia wants most of the old empire back and they are patiently planning to get it just a little bit at a time.

Then you are misreading their intentions. They admire his leadership - doesn't mean they like him as a person or a policy maker. He does what he says he is going to do which is what we lack here at home.

He was speaking to children. He is correct that Russia is one of the great nuclear powers, and able to defend themselves.

Absolute non-story

Prime example right here ^^^
Putin is an a-hole and everyone on here would have called him a cocksucker and made fun of him until 5 years ago. Now because it is a chance to slam Obama, people think he is great.

There is nothing at all that Putin is doing that is to be admired. He is a third rate thug who is leading his country off a cliff.

Putin is a very dangerous man. The West should start paying a lot of attention to the intentions of this thug.
