How are Arsenal in pot 1? I have absolutely zero clue how the pots work aside from the draw.

The formula UEFA uses rewards a ton of points for simply being in Europe every season for the previous 4 or so seasons.

Performance in a domestic league has nothing to with the formula so clubs that play in tougher leagues lose a bunch of points if they miss any seasons in Europe.

Arsenal continually makes the CL and gets through group so they score a ton of FIFA computer points.

Roma, for example, is screwed for a while since they missed 2 seasons of CL. They could win the CL and the Scudetto, for example, and would only rise to Pot 3 next season barring tons of upsets.

I've long held that if you're going to let non-Champions into the tournament at all there should be something to weigh in high finishes in tougher leagues in previous seasons. It would not just protect the big teams but keep smaller teams from getting PSG / Man City in their group from Pot 3/4 like a couple of years ago.

LFC have been out longer than that, why are we in POT 3... EPL strength in general?

The league has almost nothing to do with individual team coefficient points as far as I recall. If any, it's an almost negligible amount.

Roma finished out of Europa League 2 seasons as well which is probably why we're lower. Oddly, you get almost as many points for those wins as CL ones.

Portugal's Premiere Liga is a computer monster mainly from Porto's and Benfica's Europa league runs and Europa League wins were also the main component in Bundesliga getting the 4th CL spot a few years back.

each club gets 20% of their association's coefficient.

arsenal is so high because they get into the knockout rounds every year. being in the group stage and the knockout round is where you rack up the points. plus it's a total sum type deal, not a rounding. our solid 21-22 pt yearly total adds up.

here's the rankings with the formula on the side

(i have no idea what the association coefficient means btw )

I hope Roma and Sporting CP get favorable draws, Roma because I think they will go far, and SCP because Uri Rosell is in the team and he has played in both of their games this season. I would love to see him continue to succeed even though he is with a different Sporting.

The league coefficient is a bit of self fulfilling prophecy insofar as it simply adds up the points that clubs accrue but clubs gain a significant proportion of those points simply by getting an automatic spot in the CL/EL groups.

It does seem clubs get a few points for the league but it's certainly not much. For example, Liverpool and Roma both gained around 4.4 from second place league finishes while Lazio got around 13 for winning a EL group.

We were in Europa for a couple of seasons prior to last year. The coefficient takes into account all European competitions I believe.

Roma doesn't stand much chance of an easy draw but we still have a shot. I'd be happy concentrating more on the league race and taking our chances rotating some younger guys into CL group this year.

If we manage to get out of the group though, I think we'd be tough match up in the knockouts with Strootman coming back and Manolas / Astori having had time to adjust.

Edit added: at least Napoli lost so that means Roma gets at least an extra €12m from the pool. Maybe we can buy another player with that.

I hope Roma doesn't draw Liverpool from Pot 3. It would be great fanfare for the matches but, for now, the summer friendly is sufficient.

I'll be in Rome for some of the CL fixtures and will welcome some really high profile clubs coming to Olimpico just hopefully it's not all three others in the group.

So...

Pot 1 - Poroto/Benfica
Pot 2 Shakhtar/BAsel/Zenit/Schalke
Pot 4 just no Roma and maybe Monaco

I think there's actually a decent chance that 'Pool doesn't get a horrid draw.

So there's an outside shot at a Barca/City/Liverpool/Roma group?

No, because City and Liverpool are in the same domestic league.

As crazy as this sounds I kinda want to Group of Death this shite. No one wants to face Liverpool. And I want to face the top teams of Europe. Not Ludogorets, Basel, and Benfica.
