If the Saints have faith in the development of Griffin, why don't they dangle McCown in front of the Rams? Hell, we might only get a 5th or 6th pick, but why not see what might happen?

Every teams backup is so great and wonderful so long as they never need to play.

A trade makes sense IF that qb has played in that system before. Otherwise it won't help you that much at all.

Why would they want McCown?

1. Shaun Hill is probably better than McCown.
2. Why give up anything for McCown when you might be able to get him for free in a few days.

ETA:

Career Stats-
Hill: 61.9% completion, 6,381 yards, 41TD/23INT
Mccown: 58% completion, 2,035 yards, 9TD/14INT

I doubt we hold onto 3 QBs going into the active 53 just for trade currency. I personally think they will lean on Hill as the starter and bring someone that hits FA after the final cuts as a "at least we have next year" backup at the QB position. Hill is as good or better than anyone we have at the backup QB spot.

Rams would do better see who we drop and get for free.

rabble rabble rabble. I PLAY MADDEN. rabble rabble rabble. I WON FRANCHISE MODE.

We should definitely trade our 2nd round pick and Lofton for Pat Willis. I just did.

Who the hell would give up a draft pick for McCown? I don't think we could even get a 7th rounder. Maybe another player.

This scenario isn't too realistic. McCown is journeyman QB who has very limited potential and only a few years left to play; he isn't a guy you trade for.

This is my exact thought when I see trash threads like this...

And it's the same thing on the rant, but the NCAA 2014 version:

'MANNNN I'd love to see a formation with Harris at QB with LF, Hilliard, and Magee behind him with Quinn coming in motion for a jet sweep.. OMG that would be awesome!!!!'

Yeah I'm with you about the Madden thing. Realistically, even if the Rams were to trade for one of these guys, they wouldn't expect them to start week one. If they were then they are in real trouble. If anyone is watching Hard Knocks this year, pay attention to TJ Yates. Falcons went out of their way to acquire him in a trade, and he doesn't even look like a second string QB. That's the danger of acquiring developmental guys in a trade, you never really know what you get until you watch him work on and off the field.

They'd do better to stick with Hill, since he has a lead on knowing the playbook and audibles. If you can't go to the line and effectively audible your plays, you are dead in this league.

Hill is their guy. They'll pick up someone as a backup (I doubt they feel comfortable with Gilbert, a rookie, as 2nd stringer).

They'll start the rebuilding process next year (better them than us!!!!!).

because they can get him for nothing in a week

You don't give up a draft pick for a 33 year old QB with no experience in their system.

Doesn't make sense because there is about a 0% chance that we keep 3 QBs anyway so why would they trade a pick for one of our guys when they could just nab them once we release them?

props to the OP for trying, just doesn't know player values. McCown could end up cut and no one even picks him up. More value in Griffin for potential than a lifetime backup.

agreed. a bit of a shoot from the hip action on this thread for a fair statement.

which is the problem with op's stance. McCown is not much value to the Rams. If he were younger, then there would be a potential. Still it doesn't account for the Rams' lack of pursuit to trade for any QB. They are waiting to scour the waiver wire.

yup. problem here is that there is zero value for the Saints to trade unless we were to get at least a 3rd. Griffin is the future at backup if not our eventual starter. Yes there's value in trading an UDFA for say a 5th rounder. However, is it really that much value if you must turn around the following year and use that 5th to draft a backup QB? No. At that point it's a wash, plus we would have to train another rookie to take the place of the guy we once had.
