Won't play this Saturday... But will be on the field at some point during the season.

Robinson had a very similar situation and similar timing. Joined the team the week of the TCU game. I thought there was no way he would see the field before week 8... But I was wrong. He was out there week 3.

But, RR is a CB and didn't have to worry about his weight, he actually needed to gain weight, but he could still play and not be tired or anything. Valentine is a big DT... No idea about his weight or shape but if I had to guess I would say he's at least a few lbs heavier than he needs to be and is not in game shape right now.

Valentine might benefit from a RS year if he isn't in great shape. He had a little bad weight in HS and I would imagine he is probably heavier now than he was then. Once he gets in shape he will be a beast.

Working out and working out + practicing in pads + scrimmaging aren't the same at all.

He might even be in shape and not overweight... But he's not gonna be in game shape or football shape.

I realize that KG5989. I played Jr. High, High School, & 2 years of college. I missed the first week of fall practice in my Sr. year due to a school sponsered science trip to the Bahamas. When I started with the team the 2nd week I was in better shaoe than 90% of the team. I was running 2.5 miles twice a day plus weights 3 M, W, & F. What Im saying is that it is possible to keep up.

I get that.... But this ain't high school man. And Valentine was a DT that already needed to drop some lbs out of high school.

And you missed 1 week... That's it. Valentine missed the entire offseason workout and conditioning program and all of fall camp. Big difference between missing that much time at a major football university and 1 week of high school practice.

And Valentine missing time isn't the only issue... He's also way behind other guys as well. Those guys are that far ahead of him right now.

And that's just the physical side of it... Mentally he's behind as well. He's never participated in a workout or practice or meeting yet. His head will be spinning the first few weeks.

Thanks Jim. I'd imagine it's just a matter of time, but the talk of him playing this Saturday doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Screw that. I've changed my outlook on this. I know he needs to be in shape to be a starter or major minutes, but I see no reason to rs him if he can come in and destroy stuff for 10 plays/game. Big, strong, disruptive, HEAVY could come in handy in certain packages.

Agree, one year from now the guy will be hard to block.

No
With acclimation period, he is out
at this point it will be October before any game action

My guess is University of Miami might be involved in this matter. They turned in Joker Phillips for bump recruiting rule and probably sent something about Valentine because he's from the Miami area.

SEC office is not looking good on this either especially since NCAA cleared him

Would be a bad guess.

He was cleared by the NCAA and was held up by the SEC offices. Meaning an SEC team/coach contested the eligibility in our league office.
