If we do decide to go attack ISIS with a lot of force and greatly damage them or even eliminate them, won't that just feed right into the "Western Aggression" propaganda that jihadists use to justify attacks against the United States and other western countries, in turn recruiting more islamists into jihad to fight the evil Western infidels?

Yes.

But what's the alternative?

yep. its a catch 22. to a point, you leave the middle east alone. That point is when the US interests are threatened and need to be protected.

Its kinda hard to translate that in to what it would look like ahead of time and almost has to be a reactionary judgement call based on each unique situation.

Just be more to kill.

What we absoutely cannot allow is for them to beat the Kurds or have the conflict spill outside of Syria and Iraq - I'm for containing them if they can bleed Syria a bit - but the Iraqi Sh'ia militias should handle them if they get into Baghdad or Basra - there are millions of guys who are waiting for the orders to kill Sunnis.

But, we have to support the legitimate Iraqi government (let's not forget, a complete fabrication of the United States) and the Kurds (counted among our very few reliable allies in the region - and they won't ask us to fight for them, just help them fight ISIS.)

I'd tell you what the alternative is, but certain people would get sand in their vaginas and I'd be banned again.

I bet you could do it without using inflammatory terms and name calling and you'd be okay.

We do business with a Saudi national who is "entrenched" with government there in eastern Saudi. We were joking around yesterday about jihadists (probably in poor taste I must admit) and I was telling him about the (rather dumb) rumor that was floating around that the military was painting their missiles with pig fat. He's a "Western" guy, educated here in the US etc, wears Aramni Xchange (yes, Armani exchange ) and he was saying that the bulk of Saudis believe that both the jihadis and the US are equally to blame, but that the propaganda in the ME about joining the "cause" is marketed so well that people leave their families to support this cause. He said one of his associates that worked at one of the refineries left KSA to join the Free Army of Syria, was killed in action and his family had a 60 day mourning period and the mom couldn't have been prouder of her son.

You might as well ask him to walk on water.

We need to issue the ultimatum that if you want to wage jihad against the US, we'll oblige in your struggle, and we'll gladly help you become martyrs.

This is what happens when you try to plant the seed of democracy in a nation that doesn't want it.
