In hopes of a desperation trade

quote:

The Patriots are expected to hold Ryan Mallett out of Thursday's preseason finale as opportunities around the NFL become available. The Patriots are still holding out hope that they can get something in a trade for Mallett, who is entering the final year of his contract. It remains unlikely, even with Sam Bradford (knee) going down and Cam Newton (ribs) slightly iffy for Week 1. If teams were interested in Mallett, they would have swung a deal long ago. Second-round rookie Jimmy Garoppolo will start Thursday.Related: Jimmy Garoppolo

Come on rams, do you really need that secon rounder?

Garoppolo show time for four quarters will be fun to see

If we get a pick out of him, it'll be a miracle. He's shown no real progress in the Patriots system.

Maybe I'm off, but I felt like that fact that Houston and Bill O'Brien didn't work out a trade for him really said a lot.

Ya, I'd almost suggest they actually play him and hope he lights it up, because it appears no one really wants him right now anyways.

Why would they want two strong-armed, inaccurate passers? At least Palmer knows the playbook

That's what I was thinking. Lots of teams passed on him in the draft and hasn't proven anything in NE. There's no way he'd start over a guy like Hill in STL, I guess I could see them parting with a 6th or 7th to be their backup.

If they're holding him out, they must know for a fact that they've got somebody at least nibbling on the hook.

Rams would prolly need to trade draft picks since they don't have a stockpile of talented trade bait. Maybe the Pats would need a RB but do the Rams really have one to trade.

Since the Rams don't really have any playoff hopes without Bradford there is really no reason to make the trade. Mallet isn't going to step in and change their playoff chances for the better. I think they'll suck up the fact they they will suck again this year and start looking for a QB next year.
