I thought maybe in season 2 it would have found its footing a bit...nope.

3 episodes in...most of the characters are still incredibly unlikeable (jim being the worst), same over the top dialogue, and Sorkin still insists on beating you over the head with his bullshite.

I throw in the towel on this one.

Season 2 is significantly better than season 1, and I thoroughly enjoyed season 1.

I'll never understand people who need to like the characters to like a show.

I actually love The Newsroom... but in the second season the Maggie storyline was too slow for me. I hate that HBO likes to limit some series to 3 seasons so this will be the last.

Most of the people who don't like the show can't tolerate the differing opinions on the other side.

yes that is one hell of a mystery, you continue to ponder on it and let me know if you come to some sort of conclusion.

this is false. I'm not one to get my underwear twisted over these things at all.....its not about differing opinions, its about using the show's platform to scream your opinions into a bullhorn at the audience.

They brought in conservative writers to balance out season 2.

bullshite. Go pull up any of the 12 threads from season one and read the incessant bitching about the loony liberals.

People would start whole threads about how much they headed the politics on the show.

I do hate the politics of this show...but not because I disagree with them. I'd hate it just as much if it were being used as a vehicle to to deliver a constant slew of right wing bullshite. Maybe I could tolerate it if the show offered some form of redeeming entertaining qualities, but it doesn't.

I'm way more conservative than liberal and I can laugh at John Stewart, die laughing at Colbert, and my new favorite show is Oliver's HBO show.

I hate Maher (not for his beliefs, but because he's a douche about it).

I hate The Newsroom because it's a shitty show with ridiculous dialogue and characters that no one should like and a horrifying concept (let's look at major world events a couple of years after they've occurred and we'll explain to you how you should have viewed them).

It's a shite show and I think the only way you could enjoy it is if:
A) You share Sorkin's political views 100% and aren't embarrassed to see your platform shite out of a tube week after week.
B) You enjoy dissecting Sorkin's process out of morbid curiosity.

This is how I feel.

It's not that conservatives hate the show because of the politics, it's that liberals are so tickled by the show's politics that they overlook the obvious flaws of the show itself.

You can't argue this show into something good.

I am highly skeptical of this. Hollywood's idea of "conservative" is what we would still call left-leaning or moderate at best. I quit watching a few episodes into season 1, so can anyway say if the season 2 showed legit conservative viewpoints in a positive light instead of just as a vehicle to bash them?

I'm definitely conservative, but I guess I like it cause I like shows about the inner workings of the news. Two of my favorite movies are Broadcast News and Live From Baghdad.

I think my wife tried watching the pilot once. I don't remember much of it, other than after 5 minutes I went and did something else.

Is it one of those shows where the writers are overly delighted with themselves?

This was precisely why I wanted to watch the show. I love inside looks at any business, but a few episodes showed how incredibly unrealistic this show was, most especially the fact that the main character was somehow a republican.

It's not for everyone and I understand the dislike for it (especially given the way Sorkin writes). Personally I enjoy it. I prefer some of the other storylines over Jim/Maggie though.

I just wish most who bitched incessantly about it would stay out of the season threads so those who actually want to discuss the show (and not rant about dems vs. repubs) would allow us to do so.
